Hello kiddies and welcome to my slave pits! You caught me just as I was stuffing/working on my next project! I have a lot of customs and 1:6th projects that are partially completed that will be popping up here over the next few months. Some are pretty elaborate and may fail miserably, some are just regular customs. Consider this a visual guide to my artistic growth (or failings!)

One of my longest planned customs has been a set of customs from John Carpenters: THE THING, an RJ MacCready (Kurt Russell), Childs (Keith David), and a custom THING creature of my own (not from the movie, but my own nightmare).

Though I've had an outfit assembled for a while, there were no good Kurt sculpts out there, so the project languished, but for once my procrastination has paid off, as Hot Toys has just made one in the form of their PMC Military Contractor '07 (they are known for using celebrity likenesses for their military characters some times).

Though there was fan disagreement whether it looked more like Kurt from the THING or Jeff Bridges as the "DUDE", I thought it was definitely Kurt. Once movie accurate hair was sculpted on him, I think the likeness was really brought out even more. This is just a WIP:

I'll post more when I have the other two customs finished and show them off together.

He's on the Hot Toys body the head came with, and his lousy HT hand snapped off and broke in a DAY!!!!! :banghead

AWESOME! I immediately knew who it was! Great job!
Needs that huge hat he wore. Some frosted beard might be a hoot to add...:D

The biggest thing I've been working on for a few months is converting a big display case I got free from work into a giant 1:6th space station over the bulk of it's four shelves, each level a different scene. The hardest part really has been sticking to a freaking theme! (laugh).

First I thought it would be cool to just have it be all Aliens/Predator scenes/dioramas, and do cool things like having an Aliens acid hole on the floor of the top level, a hole on level two beneath it, then the fallen dead Alien on the floor of level three like he fell through the floors, and is starting to burn through the floor there. COOL!

We'll see. I am almost done with level one and am just starting now on level two. Level one seems to be taking forever.

Here it is in its early stages, with figures loitering around because I have no other place to put them. :)

There is a story involved behind the sets.

Level one of the station is supposed to be a bunch of cryo-chambers filled with an array of deadly creatures that were recovered and excavated from the remains of recently discovered ancient alien ruins.

I still need to add hoses and stuff to level one, hanging from the ceiling and running along the floor, and add more LED lights to the ceiling. I'm learning what works from trail and error (like learning printed computer screens look like ass).

I HATE foam board. It is my mortal enemy! After these, as I complete levels I will refrain from taking pics that aren't mood lit because they really look stinky.

Here's test shots. :)

This guy was up before in the Sideshow DEAD ornament thread. He's my MALL SANTA ZOMBIE. I like the naughty/nice list stuck to feet with gore and trailing off his boot like toilet paper. :monkey3

When my SUPERNATURAL custom heads get finished, I want to do a small
"Dawn Of The Dead"-esque mall diorama with the Winchester boys fighting it out against a horde of undead.

Thanks for the kind replies on MacCready!

Ugh, that Sombrero! (laugh). I HATED that! It definitely got destroyed in the base explosion at the end. Yeah, that's the ticket! Or at least that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

I thought about frosting his clothes, beard and weapons to look ice covered/cold actually. I have a couple different outfits for him though from different sections of the movie, and none of them are from when he's outside, so I figured that effect would spoil it (unless I make another...) :naughty

Nice work,I particularly like the setup with the facehuggers in the cryotubes and the 9th Doctor figure fits in very well with the setting too.

Thanks!

Not that I've got it finished yet, or that I'm entirely happy with everything, but too many different figures look nice in there. Aliens. Predators. Doctor Who. Classic Battlestar Galactica. Appleseed... :banghead

That's why I doubt I'll be able to stick with an all Aliens/Colonial Marines/Predator theme for all 4 shelves, (but we'll see!).

Thanks!
As soon as I'm finally happy with Eccleston's eyes I'll post better pics of him. :)

I hate doing eyes, as I'm sure most people do, but what I hate more is the fact I can do some eyes right in a few tries, while others take 15! Then I look at a beautiful assembly line of 20 identical painted heads by Les and cry myself to sleep on my big, giant pillow! :duh

These next few are repaints of my Character Options Doctor Who 1:6 figures.
First up is the 10th Doctor, David Tennant, who I transplanted his head onto a Dragon body since the Character Options bodies were floppy like marrionettes with their strings cut.

The Doctor doll as he looked out of the box, with wandering eye.

Twilight in the Valley of the Ood

The next set of Doctor Who figures I've just re-repainted are a pair of Ood. These guys are gorgeous and have a vast amount of detail sculpted in them just waiting to get brought out.

I experimented with different painting techniques on both, which why they are not identical.

At some point I would like to tackle re-painting Martha, who really needs it. Not only does her skin need to be darker (the reason the actress. Freema Agyeman, rejected other figures for), but she probably needs to be glammed up a bit as well, as Martha usually was.
