It's a continuation of the Witcher 3, features Ciri as a protagonist!!!

Doug Cockle confirmed that he's in the game. If you watch the trailer on the live show when it's announced in the background at the end of the tile Geralt speaks saying "a new tale is about to be told, see you on the path" something along those lines. Very excited that means the Ciri becoming a witcher ending in Witcher 3 is Canon. Seems from the trailer she went under the trial of the grasses and was successful in becoming a witcher. Here eyes when her hood comes off are closer to a witcher with some of her original eye color. I could be wrong but would be cool if that happened, it's also good how she can uses spells now.

While I do like Ciri, one of the main reasons why I love the Witcher is because of Geralt. His personality, attitude, and his snarky remarks made the game. Not sure if I’ll be able to enjoy the game as much without him.

Yea Geralt and everybody else definitely gonna be included in the game. Based on her appearance game takes place max after 10 years from W3. I have a theory that Wolf school refused her to go through mutations as it's dangerous. Probably Lynx school is the one who helped her to become a Witcher. People all over the internet are saying that it makes no sense as women can't be a Witcher. But books never said that. In the books they said ''women didn't survive a trail'' (Cat school had female Witchers) But we need to remember that Ciri isn't an ordinary woman. She is a child of elder blood and she can be anything lol Probably she'll have some unique abilities!!! I'm happy this is a continuation of the saga. I think there gonna be some playable parts with Geralt, like Ciri is in Witcher 3. Hype is real!!!

Bring on the figures!!!

Someone remind me why she didn't undergo the Trials before? I thought you needed to be very young to for it and even then the likelihood of success was very slim? Idk if Geralt would have ever wanted her to considering how OP she is.

Speaking of which, how the heck are they going to make the game feel satisfying and enjoyable if Ciri has not only the Elder Blood, but is now also a proper Witcher, without coming up with some explanation along the lines of "she lost her powers" or "her powers got nerfed because ____"?

I really liked the trailer and I think Ciri looked great in it, fierce and seasoned!

I also can't wait to see how and why she ended up becoming a true witcher and I'm glad Ciri's going to be the lead going forward too, I mean who else but her? It's a shame the culture war discourse and all the nonsense surrounding it have made it so even an awesome trailer like this gets picked apart by grifters and sad sacks in general.

Yeah the trials only work on young boys because their bodies are maluable enough to undergo the change of the mutations. I think they'll find a way to explain or retcon aspects of the books. They can also explain they were able to figure out more science in world and was able to have her do it. Though Geralt probably didn't want her to go through it. She probably found friends with alchemy skills to help her become a full witcher. I do feel she's to OP as a character and never cared for her in the games besides the initial story. I also find it a bit dumb for people and the devs to say she's the main character of the stories when she's not imo it's always been Geralt but she is the center of the stories and her being the main character here makes a bit more sense to carry on in Geralts place since his story concluded in witcher 3 blood and wine. Still feel the witcher ending being Canon was just fan service and her becoming empress made more sense because she needed to bring a better future to the world.

Ciri isn’t a regular human, her Elder blood probably helped her survive the process if becoming a Witcher but dulled her original powers down.

I don’t think her becoming Empress is a good ending for her. She’s not the type.

It was always gonna be Ciri as the next protagonist, if you thought otherwise then you hadn’t been paying attention.

If people really want to get bent out of shape on what's canon and not then all 3 Witcher games should be disregarded. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure Andrzej Sapkowski vehemently hates the games and how CDPR continued the story.

Also CDPR themselves already confirmed that this new saga with Ciri does not make any ending from Witcher 3 canon:
"The one complication is probably the idea that there is an ending in which Ciri can die in The Witcher 3," explains Maher. Thankfully that ending, which is one of three different fates for Ciri and the outcome of several hidden choices made throughout the game, isn't quite as clear cut as it may seem. "There are hints in that ending that highlight the fact that she probably does not die," says Maher. And so regardless of the events you personally witnessed at the end of your own Witcher 3 playthrough, the sequel will not "break any canon or even offend any canon."

Ciri surviving the trials is not so out of left field has people are making it out to be too. She was always a special case in the books and the games, a child born with elder blood. As far as her powers, maybe she lost them at the end of the last game? Maybe something else happened in the meantime that forced her to undergo the mutations.

We know that her destiny is to ultimately save the world, we thought that concluded at the end of Wild Hunt but perhaps it didn't. I saw a comment somewhere theorizing that perhaps another Conjunction of Spheres has or is happening in the timeline of the next game and that's what sets Ciri on the path of a true Witcher.

No matter what it is, I look forward to seeing the continuation of this story. CDPR may have dropped the ball with Cyberpunk's release, at least on a technical level, but they did not disappoint with the writing and characters, so I'm more than happy to give the benefit of the doubt and wait to embark on this new journey with Ciri myself.

Whatever the reasons on how she becomes a witcher will be revealed in the game when it's out. Regardless I'm not bothered that she's the protagonist because it makes sense for it to be her as she's one of the original characters of the series rather then make a new character to fit into the world. Geralt will also be in the game as a supporting character or playable one we'll see in time.

I feel like Witcher 4 might take a similar story route of what Final Fantasy Remake/Rebirth did, which isn't a bad choice to do since you preserve the actions that players took in previous games while simultaneously expanding the universe.

For Andrzei part, from what I remembered, he was an old man wanting the instant bag of cash instead of loyalties when CDPR first approached him for the story adaption. He didn't see the point in games story telling and the games industry and thought it would never work and prefer the instant cash instead. When Witcher 1 did relatively well CDPR tried to renegotiate with him for loyalties for their next game and Andrzei was like nahhh Im good. Then as we knew it, Witcher 2 and 3 blew up and suddenly people got into the books through the games and the rise in popularity, allowing it to be adapted by Netflix.

That's when he started making a lot of noise about how the books came first not the games and how CDPR is ruining his story, etc etc, which eventually landed in an eventual lawsuit as he wanted to take back all the money he 'should' have earned. The lawsuit was eventually settled and in the end it was all about money anyway, given how he was willing to let Netflix writers **** all over his story and not make any noise about it.

In short, not a fan of the author given how he has behaved but I appreciate the story he conceived.

I am cautiously optimistic after the disaster of Cyberpunk and the departure of so many devs that made Witcher 3 what it was.

The hope I have is that the new questline added to The Witcher 3 Nextgen Update felt like it was part of the original game with a great narrative and fun gameplay.

1. As long the writing is of the quality of The Witcher 3 then the game will be successful. Sure they can improve on and update the combat which I am certain they will but the narrative is what cemented W3 as one if the best games and RPG's of all time. The Witcher was great because of its well definied protagonist and evironmental story telling.

Geralt and Ciri truly require you to assume a role as if you were an actor playing their character not some self insert. They have their own beliefs, motivations, etc that define them and make it interesting to play as them trying to decide what would Geralt/Ciri do.

I will say the trailer has huge story implications and I hope those ideas are thoughtfully explained and make sense. What happened to Ciri's Elder Blood powers and why? Why did she take the Trial Of The Grasses and what enabled her survival. Why is she choosing the path of The Witcher. These are greatly important questions they can't fumble.

2. Ciri is the main character of the series and the story is only told through Geralt's point if view. Anyone who has read the novels will know this. If you're a sexist bigot then get bent.

Lets hope the game is great and we get some great 1/6 representation.

Ciri's alright with me, she and Geralt have very similar personalities. Witcher 3 was building up to having her as a protagonist some day.
