2000 pieces is A LOT for something that costs in the hundreds of dollars.

Look at the 1/6 exclusives also which are way more affordable than the PFs, they are usually around 2000 pieces and yet they can still be had for retail or less on the secondary market. Yes they do sell out from sideshow, but they dont hold any sort of value.

Star Wars is just too over saturated, no matter which character and which line/company. Even Master Replicas new products with 2500 edition sizes can hardly sell out now days and can be had for much cheaper from retailers. Marvel is where the new craze is headed.

Prototypes are never of polystone. They are painted resin that has been cast and painted in the SSC studio. That's why the production process takes so long, they have to find materials that can reproduce what they did in the prototype, but many times over.

Ohhh...thanks for the enlightenment Dave. That certainly explains alot (to me at least.)

I have my order through a secondary dealer. Even with shipping, it'll be much less than what SS is charging on their site w/o shipping.

Also, I notice that the description (off the SS website) of the PF Maul also doesn't say anything about polystone being used just like Fett. I checked all the other SW PF's, and they all say that they are cast in polystone. I have bad feeling about this.
Luke and Yoda doesn't say anything about polystone well at least that I can find.

How about since Fett is plastic should SS lower the price, that should be the poll.

Sideshow needs to address the issue. Fett is getting alot of bad press, I never seen this happen this bad with Sideshow. I alot of people canceled this week, this figure is going to be dirt cheap,

4000 edition, plastic, worst exclusive ever, and bashed beyond belief, your crazy to hold this order. I'm sure it will be a great statue but not for the retail price. I can't believe people will buy this direct from SS when it will available for so much less.

No worries, spooktacular 07 at least PF Vanhelsing will have company :lol

I have a Saruman statue that is a production sample...stamped on the base....
'Production Sample. Not For Resale'

It's made of polystone. I always thought the process turned out 10 or so production samples for the team to change accordingly before going into the full production run. Guess it depends on the item.

There is a difference between and prototype and a production sample. A prototype is what is shown to us at show and is used for pre-order pictures. The Production sample is a sample of what they are getting from the factory so yes it would be made of the same materials that the final piece would be made of.

Just to clarify something from chatting with the SSC peeps at ORC this weekend.

They tried to use a polystone body with Fett. But when everything was cast up, the armor pieces already made would not fit on the polystone body due to the different rates of shrinkage of the different materials. So the only choice was do to a steel mold for the body, a process that is hugely expensive for SSC, especially for such a large size item. If you're making 15,000 or more of something then the cost evens out for a steel mold. But for only 4000 Fetts the steel mold is actually MORE expensive for them.

So the question that everyone should be asking is, why didn't they RAISE the price since the per unit cost is more for them?

Hmm, looking at it that way, I can see how the choice would be a difficult one. Use polystone and cost more or use ABS and cost the same. I'm sure many would be fine with raising the price, but it might knock it out of price range for others so by choosing this sideshow was able to let everyone who order still be able to afford it, even if some don't want it anymore.

Personally, I know it is illogical, and having the reasons explained and everything I personally think sideshow made an excellent choice. However in the back of my mind I must confess I still have the prejudice that the ABS is somehow less than the polystone. Hopefully as soon as Fett gets here that will go away.

And I also hope that this does not dissaude sideshow from making a Jango Fett, because I'm not sure how much I want one without the other.

That's not really the choice - there was NO WAY to use polystone (unless they went back to the drawing board and resculpted everything from scratch at different sizes).

Agreed, and my bet is that the EXCLUSIVE will be the 'rocket-firing' jetpack (like the one that comes with Boba, except the 'clean', Episode II version) and that he'll regularly just come with that other jetpack WITHOUT the missile. That's my guess for the exclusive anyways...and yeah, I hope they do a Jango soon too...I would definitely get him to compliment the Boba PF...Just don't put him in a crouching pose please SS...a nice tall stance with both pistols in his hands would look GREAT IMO! :D

I have a feeling it'll be awhile before we get Jango. I hope not, but because of his similarity to Boba and him being less popular I could see it being a couple years.

That's alright, they can tide me over by doing Indiana Jones first! :chew :chew :chew

Boba must have been in the pool! Right George!?

Sorry Dave I couldn't let it rest.

OK Metal would have rocked and they should have taken a poll! then changed it rather then slip it in after Flex Pay. Now that it is nothing more then an expensive Koto Boba Fett it will go down big time on the secondary market. But no I am locked in I assume?
