In the comics he wore leg braces that he controlled with his mind, he could be doing that and decide later on to accept his paralysis.

The chessboard was put in post production, just so Singer could pretend he was shooting XXX-Men on set.

The makeup on Mystique looks a lot better than in first class.

Jennifer Lawrence had issues with the make up while filming First Class. So for this film they decided to do a combo of make-up and a skin tight suit. You can tell if you look closely it's a suit and the scales are kinda "pinned" on. But I think it being a spandex suit causes a lot of detail to be lost.

I wonder if in post production they add more scales/detail?
