I think SR was actually very well written, so I’m glad.

Superman Returns didn't have Superman going all Hulk Rage and dark on a bunch of super powered cannon fodder. Forget all that character stuff, fans want neck breaking!

OK, enough sarcasm. I'm one of the few defenders of Superman Returns. Brandon Routh did exactly what hew was hired to do - channel CR's performance in hopes of re-launching the franchise. Singer is clearly a loyal fan of Donner and I can't fault him.

I thought Superman Returns was pretty well written, as well. But it was hamstrung by a few things, including its mistaken attempt to be a follow-up to the Donner films, the lack of action that was really standard in the Donnor films, and a few questionable moves like the baby. But I think the characters generally were well written considering those constraints, and the story line progressed in a sensible enough way.

I'm a fan of SR as well - it's got plenty of re-watch value in my books. Bozoworth & other questionable things aside, it's still a cool film.

Too bad I can't say the same thing about MOS. :lol

Routh did a great job imitating Reeve's performance, but it was just an imitation. It wasn't a fresh interpretation. Just like Singer's ill-fated approach.

I went to an IMAX to see this and was so dissappointed that Superman hardly got to use his powers. Have to disagree about the lack of action in the originals. That was one mistake Donner never made. He might have gone overboard with Supe's time-warping abilities but he kept the action going and gave us a good sampling of what he could do. If Singer had three more scenes on par with the airplane rescue, it would have been closer to what Donner did in his time.

Having Superman even fly convincingly was a treat in and of itself back then. I didn't count the number of times I saw Routh flying around but it felt like he wasn't even in the air as much as Reeve was in the originals.

Sorry, that was bad phrasing on my part. I agree with you, and meant to say that it missed the action that the Donner films did bring. So, it focused on some of the Donner stuff it shouldn't have, while ignoring other parts of it that it should have paid more attention to.
