I find the spontaneous surge in X-Men hate fascinating, as we have had 4 great movies, 1 ok movie, and 1 not so good movie. That's a pretty good record for me. It seems that hating the X-Men franchise has become quite popular with certain people only very recently. We started off well, as X1 and X2 were excellent movies (X2 being one of the Top 5 CBM's IMO). Sure X3 (which I really like) and XO:W weren't 100% what we were looking for, but since then we've had two great movies in X:FC and The Wolverine, both of which are really enjoyable movies to watch. The X-hate bandwagon seems to have come from nowehere?

I'm not sure if you were referring to my comment, but I said disappointed, not hate :lol. I'm too big of an X-fan to hate these... except Origins; hell I'm one of the few in existence who even likes LS. Of course X2 is their crown jewel. But with the level of quality in CBM that we're seeing in the last 6 years, it's hard for me to not wish they were MUCH better.

Like Seph Stampede said, "they didn't age well", and that's just the truth. The X & Spidey movies made a big splash when they were first released because it was all what fans have been waiting years for, but now we have so much to compare them to. They broke new ground, paved the way but quickly became a stepping stone (Blade doesn't count as the first to break ground because R rated movies with that kind of content are aimed at a totally different audience). From day one I hated the inconsistencies, inaccuracies with the source material, total lack of continuity, the butchering of Rouge and all of the other common complaints; but now I even lost appreciation for certain parts of the script where it was stuff that didn't bother me years ago. There is a fair amount of cheesy delivery where the dialogue sounds just like it does in the X-Men Legends games.

Marvel Studios really took a look at what the X-movies did wrong, what The Dark Knight trilogy did right, and made great decisions based on all of that. TDK movies proved that CBM's don't have to be candy coated. I feel Marvel Studios pushed the delivery to the limits to where it is a perfect balance that appeals to the wide audience it’s targeting. All little kids go wild for it all and toys are selling like mad, and the older portion of the target market can be satisfied with the maturity level of the dialogue, story line and overall delivery.

The real reason why the X-movies didn't get rebooted is Jackman IMO. He's universally deemed as this perfect Wolverine and he became the face of the franchise. That's why they keep trudging forward with him at the forefront instead of doing what was done with Spidey, and starting with a clean slate after 3-4 movies. Personally I like Jackman's Wolverine but I don't feel like he was absolutely born for the role as RDJ is for Stark and Hemsworth is for Thor.

Pturtle and Nova will be happy

Bad *** Digest:

Fox unveiled an extended sequence from X-Men: Days of Future Past at CinemaCon today and, as an avowed DOFP skeptic, I have to admit I was impressed. The sequence we saw included an action scene that is, without a doubt, the best action sequence in Bryan Singer’s filmography. Granted that’s a low, low bar, but this would have been a solid showing from any comic book movie.

The sequence was in the future, and Sentinels are dispatched to find and kill mutants living underground. Their delivery system (and the world) is reminiscent of The Matrix, but once the Sentinels - who can adapt to any situation and change their form - drill into the secret base it gets real good.

The mutants on hand: Sunspot, Iceman, Bishop, Kitty Pryde, Blink and Warpath. Kitty Pryde and Bishop immediately run off while the other X-Men keep the semi-liquid metal robots busy. There are good action beats using the characters’ powers, especially Blink, whose portals allow Warpath to do some really fun run and jumps onto the Sentinels. Iceman glides around on an ice slide, and Sunspot becomes a being of lava and fire as he blasts robots.

Kitty and Bishop (who uses Sunspot’s fire to charge his big dumb gun) are running off to a closet someplace. Bishop lays down and Kitty starts massaging his temples, and it becomes clear that she’s sending his consciousness back in time. The others are buying them minutes… with their lives. A Sentinel snaps Sunspot’s neck. Iceman has his head popped off and is crushed underfoot. Blink gets skewered. Warpath gets blasted to smithereens.

But it was worth it! As the Sentinel breaks into the closet, blasting fire, Kitty looks up and says, “Too late, *******!” and everything disappears. The past has been changed.

The action was pretty good, and while the designs of the characters are a touch X-Treme for my taste, the tone worked. I’m not sure how Kitty Pryde managed to learn how to send people back in time, but maybe that’s addressed. Or maybe not.

What’s intriguing is that this sets up the possibility that Bishop goes back in time himself - could he end up a foil for Wolverine in the '70s? Could he have gone back to the '90s and that’s how we’ll get cameos from those characters? Obviously he somehow fails, because they end up sending Wolverine to the past. Unless they’re sending multiple people back, Terminator-style.

I was surprised at how good the sequence was, and how it looked only moderately cheap (the X-Men movies have been really, really cheap looking). This is the first time I find myself looking forward to this movie.

Singer gave us some really awesome action in his Superhero films that remain iconic to this day. The writer of this article seems like someone who hates the franchise, and expected the movie to suck, and is now eating his words. I don’t even think TWS’s first 10 minutes can contest with X2’s opening sequence.

I know for sure I'm more excited to see the X-Men in action than Cap with Black Widow. Cap is cool, but I don't give two ***** about Widow. I have no connection to her character like I do with the X-Men. Don't know what to expect, but I'm hoping the action in DOFP is top notch. I have a feeling it's for sure going to be more gritty and gruesome.

Same here, and from what reviews are saying, she has just as much screen time as Cap. She’s pretty much the main reason why my excitement for TWS isn’t as high as DOFP.

Yep, I was more excited for the film before they announced what a huge role she would have. Originally, I thought the film would focus on Cap, Falcon and Sharon Carter as the leads with Black Widow having a cameo or small appearance.

It's not that she's a terrible character, she's just kinda boring and overrated. And while Scarlett isn't a bad actress, she's just unbelievable as a Russian spy. I bet I would like the character more if the original casting of Emily Blunt stayed in place. :lol

Yeah, you're right, Cap 2 is going to suck ***, all those great reviews from every single publication online or print must be dead wrong. :lol

I don’t think it’s going to suck, but reviews have tricked me before. I think it will be solid though, and hopefully it rekindles my interest back into the Marvel cinematic universe.

Well I think the X-1 shot there is a bit deceptive, and this is more representative of him striking a pose, showing off what muscles he had:

But yeah, 10+ years of a personal trainer, probably a personal dietitian and cook, and all the HGH he can consume will do that.

Nobody said the movie was going to suck? We both just mentioned that we didn't like Black Widow that much and were upset she had an equal role to Cap in his own film since she is not interesting enough to carry her own. :dunno

I'm still excited for the movie and am looking forward to watching it opening night.

Jackman is a beast in The Wolverine........A shame his time is running out to play the part, it happens to the best of them..I am curious who would be potential suitors one he and RDJ hang them up

I think they'll have Rhody take up the suit for IM once RDJ bows out as per the comics, so there's already an established passing of the torch in continuity. As for Jackman, I'm not sure. He ended up defining the role and will be an extremely hard act to follow.
