The producer spoke with Entertainment Weekly, and expressed her desire for “taking that character into a solo film,” with regard to the mutant shapeshifter.

The site also says screenwriter Simon Kinberg (X-Men: First Class) wants to write the film, and “likes the idea” of a Gambit movie. Kinberg goes on to tell EW his love for Jennifer Lawrence’s version of the character, but feels she could use the spotlight in her own film, saying, “I feel like because [Lawrence] is in such a crowded ensemble, there’s so much opportunity if you were to follow her solo.” When it comes to Mystique, there’s a lot of backstory to be explored, especially with her back-and-forth between being a hero and a villain. If the hints dropped in X2 are still relevant, the film could address how the character is Nightcrawler’s mother. Or if it’s anything like the comics, we could learn her connection to Rogue, Destiny’s Diaries, Mr. Sinister -- there are a wealth of possibilities.

Donner also tells the site that Gambit or Deadpool could use a solo film, noting, “There’s a lot of great characters.”

Before any potential spin-offs take off, we first get X-Men Days of Future Past, which hits theaters on May 23.

It would be great to see Colossus get a little more spotlight. Here they've had a guy who basically looks like Piotr and hes an actor (not a wrestler or someone they pulled in just for size) and hes been so underutilized in the franchise. I know people have criticized him as looking like a t1000 in Colossus form, but you can see his banding in that pic above pretty well. Really hope he gets some decent time onscreen in this flick.

Still loving Magneto's suit and helm. Helm almost looks like it's made out of stone. If so, I wonder why it's not metal.

I think people are (intentionally) not understanding that the Quick Silver in this movie isn't supposed to be taken seriously. He looks more like comic relief.

His silver jacket and hair are supposed to look silly because the character himself, and his personality, are silly I think.

Heres what Singer and Kinberg had to say about QS

"The way we conceived him is a sort of an ADD kid,” screenwriter Simon Kinberg told the magazine. “Everything he does is just popping and zipping around. He doesn’t take anything seriously. He’s not in a situation for more than a few seconds. So it infused the movie with an energy that was really useful for us.”

“Quicksilver is Magneto’s son in the comics and there may be an allusion to it in the movie," Kinberg told EW. "But it’s not something we fully explore yet.”

I have the feeling I'm gonna end up liking QS if they pull that ADD kid stuff off.

It's weird, I hope this movie is good, but at the same time I'd like Marvel to get the rights back, I know they would get all the characters right, Wolverine for instance, the best Wolverine I've seen in this continuity was in X1, pretty spot on personality wise, but the character has gone worse exponentially ever since. Xavier and Magneto are also fantastic, but that's about it.

I'll always love X1&2 but in my mind this continuity should have ended with X3.

Yet, I'm looking forward to this movie

Jackman nailed Wolverine in X1 - his cage fight at the beginning is STLL my fave bit in the entire saga.

I would be down for that version of Xavier. This films young Magneto. a future Wolverine, and Colossus and Bishop.

Dinklage? Or the Sentinels? Personally, I would pick Winter Soldier and Secretary Redford over those guys any day.
