The Terminator is derivative yes, but mostly from two Outer Limits episodes from the 60's which obviously predated the DOFP story by over a decade. I can't help but think of T2 everytime Logan says, "I was sent by YOU" to Charles though. That line does seem pretty reminiscent of Cameron's work. I think we're at/have been at a point where current stories are just a melting pot of influences and influences OF influences. :lol

Prof. X's astral projection escapades are something that the X-Men did pretty frequently over the years, but Dr. Strange would do that, as well. So would DC mystic characters in their way. Guys like Deadman and Dr. Fate. There were lots of examples of sleeping folks doing wacky things in the dreamworld in Gaiman's Sandman series. So this stuff is somewhat common as I think about it.

Yeah, even the first Clash of the Titans had the girl's spirit rising from her sleeping body and going off with that bird thing. :lol

But having the first story that involves the realities of two different time periods that is REAL time travel (The Matrix had people sleeping in the "future" and adventuring in 1999 but they weren't actually in 1999) is a pretty cool claim to fame for DOFP.

That's true, but Cameron still stole Deathsroke's name. I don't get why DC didn't sue him like the Outer Limits writer did back in the 80's? :dunno

Stealing storylines is one thing, but names are tricky. I'm guessing Cameron got to copyright "The Terminator" as a movie title in probably the same fashion that he was able to lay claim to "Avatar" (when previously it was being used by that Airbender show.)

Oh...****! Don't even get me started on Avatar and all the stuff he stole...even the design of the characters were stolen from Marvel and a bunch of other sources :lol

Does that look familiar? :lol Dude is not even trying to hide it anymore...he just steals stuff and puts his name on it.

I read a quote of his when Avatar came out that his movie was a "collection of every great sci-fi story I ever loved" or something like that so at least he paid some lip service to the derivative nature of it all. But yeah, I find that I really need to just watch his movies and not listen to his interviews if I'm going to enjoy them. He really rubs me the wrong way whenever I hear his self-congratulating commentary on his own work.

Dude, he was angry and when someone said to him in an interview that Avatar looked like the Halo game. He got all defensive, saying HALO was a ripoff Aliens and HIS style and all the stuff from his films :lol

He's seriously got the most fragile ego of any successful director that I've ever seen. He even went out of his way to film a reenactment of some loser sitting at his computer in the dark ripping on Avatar's first preview as a representation of all the internet masses that were proven wrong by how awesome his movie was. Really? You made Titanic and now Avatar and you really need to get the last word on people who criticized you on the internet in a blu-ray special feature?

How pathetic. Avatar's Honest Trailer must infuriate him. :lol

Cameron isn't the only writer/director being discussed here who liberally stole from a comic book apparently.

So did Lucas and Spielberg, so I guess all the "great ones" steal :lol

From 1954....the moral of the story, don't **** with Disney because they will own you...eventually. :lol

These are just a few things. I've got a bunch of other stuff Lucas and Spielberg stole from other films and used them in the Indy films. :lol

Is there a video of this? I'd love to see it. :lol

Back in 1987 he actually sent letters into Starlog to defend ALIENS from fan criticisms. You can tell that **** bothers him. He doesn't really bug me, but he sure is an egotistical and arrogant SOB. I remember someone asked him what he thought of Star Wars and he didn't really have anything good to say, just, "damn it, someone beat me to it". Really?

The video of the nerd criticizing the Avatar preview is on the first Avatar blu-ray release. He was on Ellen when Avatar came out and he said that when Star Wars was released everyone said, "Its like nothing we've ever seen before," and he said "but I had seen it all, right here," (tapping his head.) So literally on national television he basically claimed co-credit for Star Wars because he had been thinking of the same type of story and that Lucas just beat him to the punch. Wow dude, just wow. :lol

Didn't one of his marriages last only 2 weeks. :lol

I don't remember if it was that long. :lol

Wasn't he trying to disprove Jesus or something with the shroud of turin? I can't remember.

Yeah, The Lost Tomb of Jesus. He thought he could be the one to do it...not sure if he succeeded. He probably failed :lol
