yeah my Netgear router is a complete and utter piece of crap.

A hint with netgear routers, they seem to need reseting every few weeks. Just power it off and on and that will fix those weird issues a lot of the time.

Current rumors have it in the 2011-2012 timeframe, so buy away! He will get plenty of use out of the 360 over the next 3 to 4 years!

Wait 'til next year, since they will be putting blu-ray technology in the 360.

Next Gen is hard to define since we are currently stuck in next gen... there is really nowhere to go until they develop and utilize higher res technology (current talks of 1440p and beyond). Until then there is so much space to utilize on a blu-ray disc that there is no need for a while.

They're never going to put a Blu-Ray drive into the Xbox 360 console and most certainly won't ever make games on Blu-Ray since that would exclude people that have consoles without the drive. But most likely they will release a Blu-Ray addon drive sometime next year like they did with HD-DVD.

As far as next consoles, I think they should finish with the current HD before they start thinking beyond 1080p--most Xbox 360 and PS3 games only render games in 720p so they need to get them rendering at 1080p first.

You guys are absolutely correct. I mean hey, why would developers want to have Blu-ray discs to look forward to when they can cram games onto 1 DVD disc for the next 5 years? It's not like technology will advance anytime soon, right? Nah

If anything Microsoft will add a blu-ray player add on. They will not make 360's with the BR drive inside of them.

Now as for the next xbox, that is a different story.....and most likely will come standard with a BR player I bet.

I'm in a flat so I can't have my sound on the TV too high.
The xbox seems very loud in my front room and does bother me usually when watching movies. I don't think I would buy a blu ray extender for the 360.
I would need to buy a ps3 ( again ) I think.
