Yea the more lifelike details in the suit are what have put this beyond an excellent statue into a grail status in my mind. I was going nuts trying to find one because of that. They did it with Wolverine too, just that added extra touch, extra detail here and there and they actually look like something a hero, or real human being(mutant) could wear. And on the statue itself they actually look like they're wearing something and not just a painted on colored suit. That too me is what's pushing these XM statues into another level.

Why can't we all just appreciate the awesomeness that is this statue. I'm envious of those getting this and yet those that have it aren't happy enough with it. To each his own. :duff

To be honest, I would've preferred the statue to incorporate his purp undies. Not only to see a cooler, more contemporary vintage Magneto, but also to better contrast all the red on his costume (there's quite a bit of red). However, I can't always get what I want and this costume is still awesome. Has a sweet modern vibe to it.

Can you imagine the Superman PF without his classic red undies? I couldn't.

Uhhhhhh... he's wearing his purple undies... on the inside. That's how I see it. :wave

Guys managed to check out the production piece. I have to say, it actually looks even better than the proto type we've been seeing all along. I can't believe how good its turning out!

I don't think that's a fair statement to say. The only way you can really say that is if different concepts were posted from the beginning and a poll was posted. I can personally say that I actually loved this suit/statue the moment this thread was made not just because it was Magneto but because the style they were going with. Would I have picked this over a comic version? I don't know.. Yes it's missing the purple underwear which represents the character that we all know but he doesn't HAVE to have that as proven here. The reason why I personally like this suite is because it's not just a sculpt with red paint on his body which is supposed to represent a suit. It's an actual suite with some details in it and as someone else pointed out, it's more realistic.

As far as the whole grail thing goes, I don't know why that's an issue. Technically, this fits the definition (or one of the definitions) of what a grail is.

I don't care one way or another.. Just figured I'd join the convo.

I meant no one would have chosen it because its a suit never used before, thats all.

Totally agree!

Yes I can. They do it in movies and the comics now. Magneto and his undies aren't as iconic though.

Its totally iconic its how he's known..none of the x-men in the movies have their comic suits like that bcz for whatever reason they didn't use them. Perfect example is batman in the nolan trilogy (not a great comparison bcz bats certainly has way more looks than mags has)..so that suit is widely different from the comics..its not bad just not the traditional batman suit that he's defined by…magneto isn't recognized by a suit that came out in a movie from 3 years ago…he's suit is the one I've described…if Im wanting to own one definitive magneto statue, I want his traditional suit, not something they just made up for the movie, regardless of if I like it or not. Same would go with batman (nolan suit vs traditional look)

There! I could go for either look.

I love how this looks and I wanted to make a request if you could also add the purple in the neck and do a comparison shot then..mags comic suit has the purple trunks and the purple on the neck piece and would love to see how it all will come together.

Always hoped for him not to have the purple underwear on his pants honestly, since they first showed the 3D WIPs.
As "iconic" it may be, it's still a silly concept to me, I don't really care if comic heroes have been wearing their panties on their suits for decades, neither I care for extreme comic accuracy if the final statue has a better concept than the original.
I find the whole underwear thing too fancy and borderline ridicolous, glad that more modern depictions are getting rid of them and surely is something that bugs me on a high end collectible.

I get that, but its who he is..its as much of the character design as the helmet is as is batmans utility belt…when I think of magneto I like the character and the representation of what he's been since the characters inception many many many years ago. I want THAT guy, not the movie version which will come and go…

Also just because it is a high-end collectible as you stated shouldn't change the portrayal of how the character is interpreted and just because the character is interpreted correctly/accurately represented certainly wouldn't change/determine whether or not your item is "high-end." It sounds like you were trying to say that because something costs a certain amount that it shouldn't have the underwear (which isn't the proper term but il play along) showing and that that somehow is a 'cheap' look, or something to that effect…it sort of lost me for a bit.

Again I just want to reiterate guys Im not NOT happy or pleased with this, as Jedi mentioned..I love this piece…look back at the original XM thread (with 3 or 4 statues being covered in one thread), I'm one of the first on board with this piece discussing it and drooling over the concept art…I have it on PO…I'm simply stating (in regards to the suit) that the definitive version of magneto is the original and comic portrayal. Thats not debatable imo, its fact, as that is who the character is…before the piece was even announced, when I would dream of getting a mags piece and dream of how it would look, I didn't say to myself that I wanted a Days of Future Past/First Class movie magneto..I wanted the comics magneto, the one I've grown up with and what symbolizes the character. Thats all I was stating and I'm not saying that to knock the current suit; I think it does look good and for those who have it on order I'm sure all will be happy and will love this piece and be proud of it…but for me, its comics magneto and thats what I plan on making this piece into.

As I said, this is just my opinion. I said that it bugs me on a high end collectible, I perfectly know that many/most people who collect are all for full comic inspired collectibles and it's a perfectly understandable position, that I simply don't share. To me it detracts from the sculpt, I wish it didn't but I found myself looking at the Superman and Batman PFs and it bugged me.
I'm not implying you're bashing the current suit or whatsoever, btw ;)
If you prefer another look and want to make a custom out of it, I'm 100% with you. I plan on having most of my pieces customised and improved one way or another too, and I really don't care if they're just "normal" statues for common mortals that you can find anywhere or uber-giga-mega Grails.
Perfection exists only in the eyes of the one who's watching and nothing is sacred in this hobby, imho. I surely don't let other people's opinion stop me or bug me and I approve you're going your own path with this piece, it's the right thing to do.

im not ripping it or saying it looks bad etc..its good..but no one would have chose it bcz its a fictional suit lol..u might as well have picked ur own colors..thats all I'm saying…and I'm still sticking to the idea that a piece can't be a grail before it comes out..thats just hype imo…It def has the potential and the right pieces in place..but a grail can't be a grail until its sold out and its out etc and theres that consensus to some extent..not just among those who ordered it uk…

btw "purple underwear" is what and who the character is

I'm looking forward to seeing your custom piece when it's done. Don't forget, his neck should be purple too. Are you going to keep it simple with just a repaint? Because if you are looking for comic accuracy, you'll need to rework quite a bit of his costume before it can be repainted. Very curious to see what you come up with.
