I have no problem with fan input, but it should be when they are developing the prototype. Once up for preorder they should be no changes. If you like it, buy it. If you dont then pass

I think this might be one of the last times XM does something like this... It has been a massive headache.

Yea, they should do the fan input thing up until PO and then stop it. Since their license is short, they are putting POs up before pieces are set in stone which is prob the main issue. Still, I am beyond psyched about Wolverine coming soon and no matter what Phoenix ships with, she's going to be epic no regrets

They should just stop trying to give us two different face sculpts and give us two angry faces with the hair up and the hair down.

That calm face just looks terrible under any hair sculpt, imo

The one thing I do like about the calm head is it is the first one that shows Jean as a teenager. I forget how old she was supposed to be when the Phoenix took her, because the Xmen ages are all over the place, but i have always thought of her as a very young woman and that's the one thing the calm head has going for it. Other than that... Milktoast.

I agree Surly. I thought the same when I saw the calm portrait. It's a more young and still naive Jean which kind of goes with the green outfit as well.

I actually DO have this on order and think both of the head sculpts are disappointing. I think there were too many cooks in the kitchen and they should have just stuck to the original sculpt. I understand that there were issues with the bird, but they just made it much, much worse.

I think the face on the calm head is bland but not terrible by any means...definitely still pretty. The hair however doesn't look right to me...like its too flat on her head.

I have her on order as well and I'm also dissapointed. I just don't think the sky is falling. Her body is awesome and the Phoenix rocks. I have no doubt xm will square her face away before she ships. In the end I will finally have an incredible Phoenix statue in my collection that has been long overdue

yup, this is how I feel pretty much....

I feel the same way. The sky is definitely not falling. The rest of the statue is kick ass! I actually like the angry face with the hair up. It's only the calm head needs tweaking.

I know they had to straighten the bird up for leaning concerns... but instead of changing 2 head sculpts due to the new lack of room why didn't they just move her position on the base forward? All this headache for an easy fix...

Compared to the original, the face paints are worse.

The newer versions:
- The size of her iris' are too small
- they're blue? Jean's eyes are green
- lipstick is weirdly applied, not sure why she needs lipstick anyway, just give her natural lip color
- eyebrows too flat
- the black around her eyes giving the eyelash effect is almost gone, which leaves the face a lot plainer

Raised Hair
- the forehead...why?

Lowered hair
- makes a weird peak at the top back of her head. Just a weird shape from that side angle.

The head is also just too small, which to me Black Widow's was as well. But I think if the face paints wee better more people could forgive the hair mishaps. Except that raised hair hairline. That thing makes no sense.

Figures the ONE statue from XM I managed to get a PO for is the one going through the most.

It might have to do with keeping her in a position she won't risk leaning in. They already have the full rod reinforcement, but that'll only go but so far.

And that make me wonder, with them saying they're going back to the PO head, how's that going to work? They changed the hair originally because it stood in the way of the bird being repositioned so it won't lean. Therefore, the original PO head with its original hair still won't work and it will still need to be tweaked. Hopefully they can pull off a minor tweak to the old head's hair to make this work.

This debacle will not stop future fan input with future pieces. They knew few pieces would travel like this while the majority will be smoother sailing. This is part of the game and business. And its still working.

im glad they listened to fans with the changes and they are changing things back. Shows how incredibly flexible they are. What a journey, its crazy and frustrating but at least they are handling it the best out of both sides. Id rather this than some peps on here saying "stuff the fans and believe in yourself".

When XM has a mission statement of fan interaction, it doesnt mean anything until the going gets tough. Now the goings getting tough, they are sticking by their word. Whats the surprise. Glad this scenario happened to prove this. And if this throws them off ill be pretty sad for future pieces.

I think they'd save themselves a lot of time and money if they just continue to do what they did with Black Bolt when it comes to fan interaction. Their Facebook page is a zoo of requests and you can't please everyone. If anything, all the jumbled opinions on there likely give it the "too many cooks in the kitchen" feel that can lead to an error like this one.

With Black Bolt they put up a poll saying, "Hey, do you guys like the smaller base or the bigger base. This is what the cost differential will be, and we'll leave it up to you!" In the end, the fans spoke and XM went a step above and basically included BOTH base options.

I think the voting option is the easiest way for them to go for changes once the initial sculpt has been crafted. That way, unless something drastic happens in production, they won't have to go back to the drawing board for a sculpt 25 days before it's supposed to ship out. It'd be great if they did that with Daredevil, since his sculpt was ridiculed on Facebook and...well, everywhere! Just put up a couple of options (unmasked with sunglasses, unmasked yet sombre, or no extra sculpt) and see what people vote for. Keep it simple while giving the customers choices to keep them in the loop.

Black Bolt looks brilliant, and the variety of posing options given now thanks to the voting system makes it all the better!
