I know a lot of people like light up features but I think they are just a problem waiting to happen. Rather the extra effort be put into the overall sculpt. Especially if people try to sell the piece down the road, non working lights are almost a guarantee.

true..ive never been against light up features, and i assume if they're made well they won't break etc..or make them easily replaceable..but i agree id prefer the perfect sculpt...i do like the deaths siren material used as the bird…would give it that ethereal look, fiery of the bird and whatnot..thats most important…**** you could make that part of the base and really make it seem like she was coming out of the flames…would look epic!

That's true, making them easily replaceable would help. The death siren idea is interesting, just saw that piece for the first time and that base is incredible.

I wouldn't mind seeing a translucent Phoenix with varying orange tones. Would seem to take less away from Jean. Don't want a base that takes too much attention from Jean. Like noticing the base after Jean's killer sculpt and then being wowed.

Right there with you. Hate light up features because they stand the test of time.

The Bowen Dark Phoenix is the perfect solution. A very nicely coloured clear resin that can be back lit. Heres mines (until a 1/4 scale comes along!!!)

Now that looks awesome :) I think you are right a clear resin then backlight it to your hearts content :)

Although I believe I did hear a rumour that XM were developing a way to change the bulb in the BW street lamp. If this could be done for the Phoenix I would be more in favour of lightups built in BUT ALL of the latest lightups from SS that I have bought (Darth Malgus, Green Lantern and shaak ti) had major switch problems (maybe just me).

The problem is that Phoenix isn't really an X Men team member in the traditional sense. Her primary function was as a major story arc and more of a villain than anything, even to herself. The phoenix isn't going to be battling alongside the X Men fighting sentinels imo. Sure its possible but not the quintessential representation. Now jean grey on a sentinels base isn't an issue

Yeah, Phoenix is pretty much one big story arc.

Uncanny X-Men 101-137 is the entire Phoenix Saga (also includes Proteus Saga among other things). But Dark Phoenix only existed because Emma Frost and Mastermind corrupted the Phoenix and DP only appears in 135-137... Just 3 issues at the tail end of the story.

As far as Dark Phoenix goes there really wasn't any time for her to do anything else outside of fighting the Hellfire Club, her teammates and the Imperial Guard before killing herself, which is what she did in those 3 issues.

Well I'll be online later guys, just need to go to my LCS and the library, and a couple hours of some reading...but I'll be back.

After Going through my x men boxes this weekend I did find issues where jean is in the green phoenix outfit later outside the whole Phoenix saga. It happened in the late 90's during the dark ages of comics. After jean was brought back and after a series of power altering events she makes peace with the past and her memories and dawns the green suit as a member of the x men calling herself Phoenix. However during this time her relationship with Scott falls apart and that's when he gets close to Emma. Also, she declines Wolverine for the last time, gets depressed and is killed by Magneto. So while there was a jean/phoenix that fits her role as a teammate its a pretty disappointing period.

LOL! Yeah, that was the Grant Morrison's run on the X-Verse. He had A LOT of things going on. I found the 1st half of his run far more interesting than the second half.

:exactly: I had fun quickly flipping through the issues but I'm actually going to put them on the reading table.

I really can't wait to see picks of this. I was going to get the Jean Gray PF, but I think it will be this instead!

I have been meaning to pick up the three paparbacks or the huge hardcover of New X-men. Read somewhere that it more or less follows directly into Astonishing X-men which I own and love.

These are actually 2 separate periods. Jean takes up the green Phoenix costume in the late 90s while she and Scott are still together, but after he "dies" (merges with Apocalypse) at the end of "The Twelve" storyline the entire team then changes costumes, including Jean. She went through a few costume changes.

Years later, mid 2000s I believe, Morrison had Jean actually acquire the Phoenix powers herself during his run, seemingly for the 1st time since it was retconned that the original Phoenix replaced Jean, it wasn't Jean. It's at this point that Jean herself IS the Phoenix, but she wore the standard black X gear of the time, not the traditional Phoenix costume, up until her last issue or two, then changed to the traditional green Phoenix costume, but maybe 2 issues later Xorn/Magneto killed her, she's been dead since except for the Phoenix Endsong books.

Dear God I'm a nerd.

Yes, you are. :lol This was all made possible when the Avengers found a cocoon with Jean's body in the ocean and she was revived and revealed in the FF. That's when it was explained that Jean and Phoenix were actually 2 separate entities. I don't remember the issues exactly but the story happened around the mid 80's. It lead directly into the intro of X-FACTOR with all 5 members of the original X-MEN. Man, Marvel really turned Jean's history into a convoluted mess. Now we have a teen Jean from the past running around with the X-MEN today because Hank decided to bring her (and the other 4 original members) from the past to the present day. Like that move alone isn't enough, to further complicate things, we also have a Jean from the future running around now as well. What a mess.
