That's how I felt when I saw Ewan Obi at Comic-Con last year and look what happened. Not even close.

I just realize that production and proto are two different things... although on this one I did think it was the actual production shots.

Oh well, they always look better in hand and I'll have mine tomorrow.

It's kinda misleading and that bothers me.(but thats a whole other debate)
Oh well at least with ventress there not much to worry about.:D

I don't know why people put up with these paint apps. We know that they'll always be subpar compared to what we're shown.

Because it's a reality, NO 1/6 figure maker has perfectly painted faces. SSC proto's and customizer's pieces will always be phenominal compared to production quality. At most, SSC could step down their proto paint jobs to be on par with production quality.

The reduction in quality from proto to production seems fairly standard to me. Medicom's the only one I know of that consistently matches their protos, but that's because they tend to use fairly sparse paintjobs. That's not a knock on Medicom, but it's easier to match the paintjob on the proto when there's not that much paint there to begin with.

Mine will be here this afternoon... I've got my batteries charged and I'm ready to take some pictures :rock

Hey dude, my QuantumView says delivered at 11:33am. How about you?

I won't be home 'til 4pm so I'm really anxious to see what he looks like in hand.

Mine just arrived. Wow, what a difference between proto and production. Sort of depressing, I had ordered Luke as sort of a birthday present for myself. Looks like "Some random guy as Luke Skywalker". The hair paint is espescially gross. I'd love to repaint him, but I'm hesitant to since he's a limited/special item. It's been a long while since I actually bought a SS produced figure, I used to buy some of the monsters, The Apes, The Hellboy figures and X-Files, but I stopped when X-Files looked so crappy (except for CSM). I've been buying mostly Medicoms and Maquettes from SS lately. While there are things about Luke I like (little details here and there) I am disappointed in the head sculpt and paint, and I had forgotten how weird the SS bodies are. I guess I'll keep him for a while, but he may be going to ebay later on. I really wanted to be wowed, and I'm unfortunately not. This was sort of my chance for SS to win me back into buying their 12 inch stuff, but I'm just not happy enough with it. Also, why is his coat collar so tall? It's not in the movie. His coat is ill-fitting too, it bunches up funny in the back at the shoulderblades. I think I'm just going to have to stick to little Star Wars figures for my Star Wars fix, their new Yavin Luke is excellent. I had various older 12 inch SW on wait list, I think I'm going to cancel all of those. Guess it's Medicoms only for me... and dammit, I wanted to like this figure SO MUCH.:emperor

So it's not just the camera's distoring the pictures?

Definitely not, though that closeup shot did distort him a little. His cheeks seem more "sunken" or something than the protos are, the face is more thinnish. The eye detail is 100% ugly, as is the hair. I hate saying this, as a company I love SS. I adore their sculpted stuff. I want to like him so much. I have looked so forward to him. For $67 shipped I expect better. I was hoping SS was past the problems I have encountered and have heard about in the past, but I was disappointed. He looks "cheapish". I put him back in the box, I don't even want to look at him.:monkey2

Never say never. As much as Ventress has no real life actress playing her, they can still mess up the paint scheme that would detract from how we recognize Asajj from the cartoons or comics. Only in hand will we know the truth.

sideshow just doesn't seem to be able to capture a hu-man sculpt. after seeing hot toys' jack sparrow from world's end, i don't think i'd ever buy a sideshow hu-man.

They have to work on their outfits better. It's like they're just thrown on. I wonder if they use the base body when making them. Every figure has had something wrong in this regard and I wonder why. Maybe they should spend a little more time on them to get it right. Crappy bodies, Big heads, and ill-fitting clothes. It's like these figures where just slapped together without paying as much attention as they should. :monkey2 I just hope Vader and the Troops turn out better. I just dont see myself getting any of the main characters (let alone others) if this keeps up.

I'm afraid to buy any SS 12 inch now- too many things I have ordered have had inadequacies. I'm truly not as picky a person as this makes me seem, but I agree exactly with all you have said above- the prototypes look so, so good, and then the shipped product is missing the care and attention to detail. I'm still a SS customer, but it looks like I'm sticking with Hot Toys and Medicom product for my 12 inch. Still love SS Maquettes, though.
