These are awesome. So did you make Quaritch's shirt yourself? I'd be interested in doing a custom like this, since that head sculpt practically begs for it.
Can't wait to see Jake and the completed AVPAT uniform!
Ok guys here it is the final reveal of Colonel Quaritch and Jake Sully from the movie AVATAR. I spent hours gathering reference for these two customs to make them as accurate as possible to the movie. I even created my own graphics for the uniform and all of the stickers on Jake's wheel chair. But I had fun every second I did these guys so here they are!
First up
Colonel Quaritch
I did as some of you suggested and added more gray to his hair because the original sculpt was too dark to match Quaritch's tone.
For his uniform I tried to make it as accurate as possible and found actual colonel leafs to attach to his collar. I also created custom graphics for the rank bar on his shoulder and the patch that all the RDA people wore in the movie on the sleeve.
The belt is all custom make out of leather and the holster has been made accurate to the one in the movie. The strap to hold the pistol down is held shut with two very strong magnets. There are also two pouches on his right hip it took me the longest time to figure out what they were but then I got it. They are to hold speed loaders for his revolver pistol. And they actually have two speed loaders in them.
I went all out on his accessories I tried to make it so that this Quaritch could be outfitted in many different ways so that he could match the different scenes in the movie.
I made the coffee mug and gave him a removable mic so he could be outfitted to look like the assault on the home tree scene.
I also dyed a tank top teal so that he could be displayed without his whole uniform on like in the weight room scene.
I then found some reference images of the actual RDA tags and made a custom one for Quaritch. I was also able to find a good image of the eagle tattoo he has on his left shoulder and was able to water slide decal it to his shoulder. It fit just like a charm let me tell you
I kinda like it
The most fun part to create was his pistol because it is so unique. It is based off of a revolver but is more futureistic and has a scope and laser sight. I heavily modified an existing revolver and added a scratch built scope and laser sight. I think it came out really well.
Now on to Jake Sully he has less in terms of accessories but he makes up for it with his awesome custom built wheel chair. I used the Hot Toys Perseus head sculpt for Jake but I added the little bowl cut that he had in the movie to make him more accurate.
For his accessories I got his backpack dufflebag as well as custom tan boots that are movie accurate as well as a custom made pair of movie accurate pants.
Now for his chair! Here are a few shots of Jake in the chair before I go into the detail shots.
The chair alone probably took around 7-9 hours to build it was very tricky to get right. But I think the end result is great.
All of the various decals and stickers are also on the chair. This part alone took 2 and a half hours to do looking at all the screen shots and custom making each graphic from scratch.
