Pan's Laybrinth is one of my all time faves. Phenomenal.

I come from a religious family, and apparently a few years ago the Catholic church was telling people not to see the film.

So I never gave it much of a thought, and so we saw it in class, and it was phenomenal! After we had to analyze it, I told my parents about it and said that not everything said is what it is. So they were intrigued enough to actually want to meet up and watch it when it comes in.

I'm almost ashamed I never watched it before! :horror

Interesting story, man. I'd be interested in hearing how your family received it if you're willing to report back.

My parents are Buddhist, and I'm pretty much a heathen/atheist, but I can se why the Catholic Church would tell their members not to see the film, especially with the imagery of the Faun and the Pale Man.

I only have the bare bones Blu-Ray release of this. I've been wanting the Mondo steel book, but may go for the Criterion version. Is the sale still going?

Never seen Pan's Labyrinth but we saw it in a class. Loved it, and wanted to show it to the fam. Great film.

They do em in July and November. So it should be upon us soon.

I was about to ask the same question, I was considering The New World and Pans Labyrinth, but since New Workd is a blind buy, I felt I should at least stream it before buying it.

My mother is normally the most radical about things, but she's been toning it down a lot recently. She's come to the point where she wants to go to the theatres and see whatever. Just not overly sexy or violent stuff lol. She wants violence that has purpose.

Yeah, if I remember correctly, I think they said the fantasy part was a big no-no, and I think the Faun was actually the main reason. The mural of the slaughtered children doesn't help either. :lol

There is a steelbook? I'd consider it, but I like the steelbooks for new releases to avoid exhausting prices. The only steel I didn't mind was Her.

I was going to grab The New World as well, but that's a major blind buy for me. I generally look to see what gets more than a solid 7.5 to buy. Anything that doesn't have great ratings or what not, is a major risk for me. :lol

Show it to the family ? Hope there's no young kids! There are some pretty brutal scenes in there lol

Lol I know. My 14 year old nephew wants to see it. My nieces generally just marathon my Disney stuff and don't come out unless to use the bathroom or eat something. :lol

My mom and dad are generally the only people that watch anything haha.

That scene where
the officer bashes the son's face in, in front of his dad is brutal and actually made me mad
.

Just picked up the newly released The Thing Collectors Edition. I've always enjoyed the movie and bought several versions over the years. This one has around eight new features and a new commentary track.

You're the perfect person to help!
I was thinking about buying this one as well.

Do you have the previous blu ray release? I was wondering how the picture compares to that.

It's suppose to have a new 2K scan of the interpositive (whatever that means) which was supervised by Dean Cundey, director of photography.
He's the same guy that worked on the Halloween 35th Anniversary release with new coloring and high def transfer.

I had both releases and the new one is by far better and clearer.

I got the 4k at Best Buy. Still pissed so many 4k titles don't come in the steelbooks.

They're all over the place with those. Some will have a 3D, some will have both 3d and 4K, some will only have Blu-ray. Target's pretty much only have a Blu-ray and DVD.
