I just got in the Coco steelbook from Best Buy that I forgot to cancel. It will have to go back. I have the Zavvi one coming and the Target digibook. Don't need another one, especially since it's just a Blu-ray.

Got this one last week:

Picked up this one on Tuesday. Like Ween, I have the Zavvi 3D Steelbook on the way, so I don't know if I'll end up keeping it. But...the debossed title is NICE. With the last Pixar release (Moana), the title was debossed on the US Steelbook as well, with no title on the overseas versions.

And I got this one Thursday. Been waiting for a while, but it was well worth the wait, as it's a beautiful. It almost makes me think my 4K and regular Blu-Ray Steelbooks from Best Buy are superfluous...

And finally, a surprise: I got this in the mail today. It shipped last Wednesday, and this is the fastest I've received something overseas; I didn't expect to receive it before the domestic release:

Unfortunately it didn't arrive unscathed...

Normally, if it was a domestic release, I'd exchange it for a new copy. However, since I have the Best Buy 4K Steelbook on order as well with the same artwork, I'm not too bothered. I got the Zavvi one solely for the 3D, so I'll see if they'll offer a credit.

Anyway, I may break my "Zavvi only" import rule for this beauty...

Hard to see in my crappy photos, but the title is debossed:

Comparison of the Zavvi Steelbook and the Best Buy Steelbook. As you can see, the title is larger on the domestic Best Buy version and is debossed. Additionally the black is darker:

Picked up two 1982 classics and Ragnarok this morning, all in 4K UHD. The employees hadn't even put The Dark Crystal out on shelves yet and had to get them from the back. Their store received three regular 4K releases and *one* Steelbook which I went ahead and claimed. :rock. They had tons of Ragnarok steels but I didn't feel like paying extra. I already have BR final cut on blu but my understanding is that the 4K is in short supply so I went ahead and made the upgrade.

Man, that Dark Crystal is awesome, Khev. I just don’t know if I’d enjoy watching it now.

Yeah a number of people here have expressed that they don't think it has stood the test of time (or that they never liked it at all) but it's one of those films from my childhood that I still enjoy today, plus I took my kids to AMC's Fathom Event a couple weeks ago so that their first viewing of it was on the big screen and they loved it so now it's kind of a fun movie that we all enjoy together.

It has a great score and is a truly one of a kind film with all the non-human puppets and actors filmed in a way that hasn't been repeated since. With Gary Kurtz and Frank Oz involved I've also always found it to feel very "Star Wars-ish." This new 4K transfer is top notch as well (and even the blu-ray disc contains a transfer of the newly restored print.)
