Dang it my local Targets and Best Buy only decided to order the 4K Top Gun and not Days of Thunder or War of the Worlds so I had to order the latter.

Picked up Top Gun though and gave the movie a spin in man I don't know how many years. What an effortlessly timeless film. I literally could have pictured this being a brand new period/action film released in theaters last year alongside the likes of Ford v Ferrari. EVERYTHING still holds up today and due to Scott putting real cameras on real fighter jets it always will. I feel like Michael Bay has been chasing this film his whole life to no avail.

The picture and sound are off the charts, took me right back to watching this on the big screen multiple times in 1986. :rock

I need to pick then up. I read the reviews and they all got really good reviews. Top Gun doesn't surprise me since I remember it being the demo movie for home theater set ups in stores. Always had a great sound mix and Danger Zone is an awesome 80's song.

Yup pretty damn epic and timeless.

I wonder if miniatures were ever used!

Yes but only for the exploding "MiGs." But even the miniatures (which were quite large) were so good you don't even know they weren't blowing up full sized planes, lol.

Yes the audio is damn epic with almost every second either an iconic song or the roar of a supersonic engine. I didn't even realize that my ears were slightly hurting until after it was over because I just couldn't resist having it cranked way up, lol.

And that's funny that you mention it as a demo movie because I worked at the Incredible Universe Home Theater department in the mid-90's and since I got to decide which movies would demo on the main big screen in the center of the warehouse I always alternated the laserdiscs between the THX ESB Hoth Battle and the final dogfight of Top Gun. I'd have crowds of people stopping to watch those entire sequences from beginning to end, lol.

I preordered the 4K Steelbook for Top Gun from Best Buy, and for whatever reason, that version isn't due for release until 12/8! I realize that's closer to the current release date of Top Gun: Maverick, but what the hell!?!

It's because some idiot in their art department put an F-15 on the front (no joke, lol) which they didn't catch until the last minute after Bill Hunt notified the studio directly. As a result they're postponing the release a few months to fix all the cases:

Good choices for demo though with the battles and sounds and the music. I would stop and watch the demos too. Always made the movies seem more epic at home with a great set up. My home theater is coming along. I just need to get a sub woofer and curtains up and pretty much done.

War of the Worlds looks freaking Fantastic!!! I was not sure what to expect as its a very grainy, kinda ugly film. The grain was still there but the added depth and blacks really popped in this presentation.

Days of Thunder is the lesser transfer of the three (still good) and easily the weakest film IMO. Some great audio though.

I am with you on Top Gun.. Pic and sound was amazing... Its a great nostalgia film.. I don't think of it as highly as you do. I don't think I have ever been a huge fan but I like TC and looking forward to Maverick.. My son didn't feel engaged at all while watching it. He is not a jaded kid either when it comes to movies. He actually liked Days of Thunder more but I think that's because we watched that one first... They are both basically the exact same movie.. So bad move on my part :lol

I think my biggest issue is Kelly Mcgillis. No chemistry at all with Cruise IMO. Her 80's hair don't help but she is a very dull character who is, IMO, not all that attractive. Any time the film focused on their relationship it came to a screeching halt.

Great soundtrack though and a fun film to revisit ever few years.

I got the UK disc of Angel Heart in 4K. What a fantastic upgrade for a fantastic film. If you never seen it go ahead and get the reg Blu ray or rent on Amazon... Great film.

Man after rewatching TWS last night I am so ready to put those fight scenes on my top spot of best ever hand to hand fights on a domestic made movie it truly is spectacular to experience them in 2D and even more so in 3D just mind blowing what that team pulled off.

I picked up Bad Boys 3. Really solid movie overall. 4K picture and sound is near perfect. Overall I give the movie an 8 out of 10. It's almost as good as the original to me which is a surprise after so long between movies.
