Any speculations on the impact this will have on DC?
OMG, how much time do you have !!
This has HUGE implications. Emmerich was the main person who had a vendetta against Zack Snyder, Henry Cavill as Superman and who knows what else. Any other person who has worked with Snyder (and as can be seen yourself from interviews, social media posts etc etc) show that he is a genuinely great guy who loves what he does and creates films with deeper meaning and amazing visuals.
The bottom line with Emmerich is that despite his best efforts to out Snyder after the tragedy of Snyder's daughters suicide, Snyder and his loyal fandom have proven that Emmerich's decision to remake Josstice League (with Joss Wheadon) was the totally wrong decision. And therefore by default shown his pure incompetence at his job.
It seemed WB under Emmerich and Hamada's new direction, was to make single films which were not connected as Marvel. Sure there was some loose connection, but they were pushing the multiverse in the sense of parallel universes with different iterations of the same characters in their own worlds.
Disney has clearly shown that connective tissue between worlds, and also film, games and streaming TV is the way to get fans to watch everything to "keep up" with the overall story. This means more revenue per film, more subscribers to streaming and retained subscribers to watch the next connected show or movie release digitally. With Emmerich's "Silo" approach with everything separate you don't achieve that customer buy in, participation and loyalty.
So with Emmerich's total team sacked (only Hamada to go) DC and WB now have a chance to correctly utilise the IP (Superman, Batman, WW and ALL the rest at their disposal) to really make a connected universe as Marvel has done.
The irony of it is I get the feeling that perhaps Marvel is slowly wearing out it's welcome, and perhaps fans want/need something different ? Just my feeling. So perhaps the timing is exactly right for DC to shine and get Comic Book movie fans to move a bit more towards DC characters and stories.
Who wouldn't want to know what happens with a faceoff with Darkseid and how does Superman get back. Is Louis really dead ? Will Batman sacrifice himself ?
On top of all that there was the $250 Million deal with JJ Abrahms in 2019 where they got ZERO content to my knowledge in the last 3-4 years .
For me, Emmerich clearly had no idea what he was doing for DC characters, but Zaslav has laser focus and can see what Disney and Feige have achieved. Perhaps that is a good thing for Zaslav to have seen what works and doesn't work, but with Emmerich and his huge ego gone WB is clear to start a new chapter.
From a pure timing point of view Zaslav will want to strike as soon as possible so he can make the company money utilising the well known IP. i.e taking one of their most well known characters, Superman off the bench and getting him in movies. Therefore to me it's a no brainer for Zaslav to pick up the Snyderverse and run with it. Actors are in place, they love Zack and are also still willing to continue with their characters, Snyder is also willing to return, the story exists, the fanbase is there screaming for it, plus the world aesthetic and design style is set. Why would anyone want to reinvent everything and take the risk of the fanbase not liking the new direction ?
It's the way things should have gone right from the start, but due to Emmerich's mismanagement of the situation we are where we are. For me the future now looks very bright for DC to move forward.
Anyway that's just my 5 cents on the issue.
