That's strange... because if one day they decide to make this 16:9 it will be problematic because a lot of two-shots and close ups are already tight. Going to have only the Joker's eyes during most of his dialogue.

It'll work for Instagram though... or Tiktok. :rotfl

He shot the film meant for an iMax screen

No offense to you but this misconception needs to addressed and corrected lol

He did not use an IMAX camera for one second on this movie he literally just changed the aspect ratio into a forced IMAX ratio there is zero benefit seeing this on Imax he used 35mm not 70mm and maybe not even 35mm film.

I get his reasoning behind the framing he wanted to project these gods in a vertical frame reaching for the heavens and it worked it has presence but 1:85 would have had the exact same effect.

Whatever I don’t hate the 1:44 on tv but I prefer 1:85 with zero degradation to his vision.

Yeah so he basically cropped into the 35mm shot? So now to get a 16:9 ratio, you'll need to crop even further. :lol

As I understand it, he didn't crop anything, he just used the full frame. The image is actually cropped when you put it in 16:9 or other "wide" aspect ratios. You can see this comparing scenes used in the Whedon cut: what you see in the wide frame is actually cropped on top and bottom.

35mm is in 3:2 though right? Which is still wider than the 4:3 he ended up with. To get a 4:3 out of it, he would have had to crop in too. Whedon's version is further cropped in because he cropped from the 4:3 version.

I really don't know the intricacies of it, but here's a side by side:

Don't see much cropping on the Snyder version... :dunno

You won't see the crop on the Snyder version because it was already cropped off (I think). From what I understand, 35mm will usually have a 3:2 aspect. So it's like shrinking the 4:3 square to fit the 3:2 square below:

I could be wrong though.

The way he explained it is that there's no cropping or missing image. The ratio we got is the whole photo that he shot. He explained people are going to think there's parts of the photo missing or cropped at the sides, but there isn't, and the reason why he likes it is because you get the whole thing. The same people that think there's cropping at the sides are okay with cropping at the top and bottom (letterbox), whereas in his you get no cropping at all, it's the full shot frame. But obviously our TV's aren't at the ratio to display the whole image at full capacity so it looks cropped - it isn't.

Well I ended up watching this one more time and everything just finally clicked for me. I understand what Snyder did and really like it now. Gonna watch it again before my subscription runs out! I especially really like the rumored

lol this movie is still A-S-S. April Fools.

But who cares if you get the full image if the important information is framed to be seen in 16:9?

And 16:9, letterbox, widescreen, whatever you want to call it works because it is the way the eyes see -- more periphery than up and down. Only phone cameras see things tall... and people really should turn their phones sideways when they shoot (but that's another topic).

Wor-Gar, you must have loved the opening of Josstice League :lol

Wait -- I'm not sure I understand this gaff? I only watched Just-*** League once and skimmed through it really. Did it open with Bruce Wayne trying to race to his crumbling building? And Morpheus trying to help some pinned girl? Was it shot nice and tall?

I truly remembered nothing about Just-*** League other than Cranky Superman and Desert-camo Batman.
