Very nice. What product did you use, any tips how to get it to look this good?

That's just how it looked out of the box. I only moved around his front bang strands a bit and have them look more tangled up instead of the separate strands they came as.

It seems that there are several posts after mine echoing my theory that it’s a complete crapshoot as to what you are going to get with the rooted hair one I’ve seen some that look so bad, I feel fortunate to have gotten one that looked decent and I still spent hours reworking it too.

My brother also got a “pinhead” version and to the person who got hair that’s too short , man that’s a tough one. Can’t even do much about that id honestly wrote them and ask for an exchange

Am debating contacting them, tho after a comment in the Gandalf post debatable whether they will do anything.

Took hours to get to this point and a ridiculous amount of gel - so much product this might as well be artificial fiber. There's more stuff I could try but even then, there's too much hair. The wrong kind of mohair as well, e.g. too large of a wave, too thick, and cut too short.

A 500$ + fig shouldn't be this much work. It's not like it's horrible after many hours of futzing, but at this point unimpressed.
Although, managed to get close to the original image. Which on mine will take hours more work. Like on mine, getting the curl out at the bottom.

  1. The figure’s paint and rooted hair are hand-crafted, and minor differences are considered normal.

I would contact them as, I’m not trying to be harsh, but that looks awful.

What did the stock hair look like?

Yeah curious to see what it looked like before all product was washed out and reapplied
The whole "journey" is a few pages back. I did what I could. Should've sent it straight back but I tried.

We are not talking "minor variations" here. Looks something like Inigo Montoya.:poop:

Oh man, I’m so bummed for you, genuinely. It must be really upsetting.
I know you must be sick of messing with it at this point, but I’d try a mustache comb on it and just get it as straight and flat as you possibly can, it seems like yours has so much curl to it that if you do that, after it dries, it might come out looking okay. Or at least better results?
But definitely try contacting them, it couldn’t hurt.

Yeah…I think you should see if anything can be done. The worst they could say is no. May as well try.

Thanks guys. Yeah, who wants to go through the hassle, but reading more comments and in the Gandalf thread too, I just got more upset. In hindsight it should have been sent straight back but I'm new at mohair so I thought I'd try. Wasted a lot of time tho guess I learned a few things handling mohair.

Overall tho - the wrong "curl" of fiber was used. It's too much hair, way too much e.g. thickness. Poorly cut and cut too short. Bad production work and bad QC, as well as someone who didn't know how to cut wavy/curly hair. It's the kind of hair I;d expect on far cheaper figures, not even mohair.

If InArt says this a "minor variation" then we know what kind of company they are.

Thanks for the comb tip(y) - yeah, if I'm stuck with it, will try, as well as a chemical relaxer and outright stripping some the hair out. Either that, or when I get a Ranger cloak - well, someone commented about covering up the outfit. I'll be one of the few people who displays him hooded. :pfft:

This proves my theory I haven’t seen any posted here with the rooted hair that have as good a likeness. I’m not saying I don’t like rooted hair and feel it adds realism, far from it… I’m not saying its not weird to have a sculpted Aragorn and a rooted Gandalf, far from it. But unfortunately the likeness gets massively thrown off if the shape of his ahead and hair is wrong

I also feel like the eyebrows and beard are more accurate on all the sculpted versions I’ve seen including Justin’s and Ryan’s side by side review videos.

I think the likeness is pretty spot on :dunno
