Finally, I was wondering when we were finally gonna see a SERS Chris Evans sculpt. I thought we might get it from a Johnny Storm before Cap.
I want to absolutely love this, but HT still didn’t nail it. The body proportions could still use some work and the head sculpts are pretty good but not perfect. Still, I’ll almost certainly pick this up since it’s “good enough” and I’m a sucker for TWS.
This is pretty much how I feel about it. Yet another HT figure where I’ll settle with (on my own will).

I am usually surprised at how much people will nitpick tiny details like the subtle shading on a Xenomorph figure :lol However seeing that sculpt for Cap I just had a disappointing reaction. All these Chris sculpts through the years and they still can't get it 100% perfect. In saying that I have waited so long for a 2.0 of this Strike Cap that I still ordered it immediately. Same with the new Xeno. We are so starved for these 2.0's that I'll forgive slight inaccuracies just to have one in my collection

I hope they can do better with whatever Thor they make next. Hemsworth is another Chris they struggle with.

Not too fussed about the body proportions I think they look pretty good

I wish people didn’t give HT a pass as much as they do.
I’m realizing that Hot Toys really struck gold with the SERS, at least for me. They were pretty consistently being blown out of the water by custom sculpts (even if they cost 1-2x the price of Hot Toys figures themselves) but once the rolling eyes started being implemented, I found myself going for the HT sculpts.
For a while I’ve cycled through custom Steve Rogers sculpts looking for the “best” likeness, and so far that’s been the Jim Sculpt version. Even with that one I’ve nitpicked it after having it in hand, but as soon as I saw the sculpts on this I was satisfied. I guess it helps that these are their best helmet/unmasked sculpts so far and the entire figure is cheaper than a “cheap” custom sculpt, but I think without the rolling eyes I doubt either sculpt would be a contender.

For me, it’s really difficult to know there’s a better and maybe more accurate version available; so, if there’s an upgrade and it appears to be worth it in the way this one does (particularly in relation to the 1.0) then it seems like a good reason to ditch the old.

I don’t have nostalgia for older figs anymore in this 1/6 hobby. It’s really on for transformers that I hold nostalgia for originals and even then those are now getting pushed aside for me with these new “missing link” figures they’re coming out with modern articulation while maintaining the old school molding.
I vaguely remember complaining as the cost of HTs went up, that we got less - less CLOTH for sure, as HT switched over to some sort of coated canvas (which some folks really like) and less accessories. Some really cheap backdrops made of foam or really cheap plastic - which is still going on, like Loki's flimsy floppy yellow TVA backdrop.

For me this one isn't totally off the table; but probably for me not at full price. Maybe if the sculpt was dead-on, but I watched some YT vids yesterday; and it's just - not. A couple of the expressions are terrifying :lol . The shield is powder blue. I own pretty much every Cap including the black concept; think for this one I'll wait and see.

On the other hand, HT already has a stellar Bucky sculpt - the IW fig is like having a mini actor on the shelf - they wouldn't have to work that hard to put out something I'd be falling over myself to get. Like with the jacket even if that is only the Fury scene; apparently that's a custom jacket and it'd be almost impossible to do in 1/6 without access to original files.

had just bought the 1.0 a few weeks ago for $135 , that'll be good enough for me .
still it's sad they can't get the traps like the concept version for this one .

This release is cool, but I’m just tired of this whole “close, but not quite” shtick with Hot Toys. It would’ve been awesome to have the unhelmeted portrait be nice as possible to have that look with the red/blue shield.

As is, it’s decent representation, but man, it could’ve been soo much better. For me personally, it’s the type of character design that is begging for the INART treatment. It warrants that level because of how iconic the costume design is.

Do you work for Inart??

I’d like to prevent it from derailing the thread, so I’ll reign it in back on topic.

Other figures I’d like to see would be these two. First face off against the Winter Soldier.

I'm such a sucker for TWS that I'll take absolutely anything more they can give us: 2.0 Bucky, 2.0 Natasha, 2.0 Fury... hell, I'll even preorder Jasper Sitwell and geriatric Peggy. HT, please!

Yes please to Winter Soldier 2.0 and Black Widow 2.0. I say that as a INART shill.

I’m just saying it’d be better. I also buy Hot Toys and love the ones I have, albeit feeling they’re more toy-ish in comparison.

Why do you have a problem with my take/opinion?
no problem at all, is just that you already talked about INART 3 times in this thread..

I dont care so much for a WS Natasha (I prefer her look on IM2), but a Winter Soldier 2.0 would make me think about getting one!

You sure about that? Either way, I’ll keep bringing them up when I feel like it though, thanks.

My favorite BW look is Avengers. #2 IM2 and #3 WS. Winter Soldier 2.0 is a must.

I keep coming back to the promo shots and the body is probably bothering me more than the sculpts. It’s one thing with the traps on all subsequent Caps after the Concept Art version since those seemed to be lightning in a bottle with the suit but what keeps getting me is the shoulders. For the Concept Cap body, I believe they used bigger shoulders than usual for that body and it worked really well. For every figure since then, they went back to the normal sized shoulders and they don’t work.
In shots from TWS, his shoulders in the Stealth Suit are almost comically wide but the figure has very straight shoulders that don’t have much definition at all.

Inart can’t even do 5/6 figures a year without having issues.
By the time they do 80+ figures a year I’m sure they’ll get a pass every now and then as well.:)
Also you keep insisting that Inart is great at costuming and details, but they have multiple figures with missing/wrong details in the costuming.

Anyway way back to this figure, sculpt is almost there. Some shots are excellent and some less so. Close ups seem puffy, maybe focal length? Might look better in hand. HT have released some pretty great sculpts recently so I have faith.
