I think you are. I just watched a few clips from that movie and found those werewolves to be super generic and "cartoony" looking (The absolutely horrible CGI did NOT do them any favors either. Good Lord, What an eyesore...). Even in the original concept sketches they come across more like roided-up wrestlers/superheroes than actual wolves i.m.o...

An attempt to rank my personal favorite werewolf designs would probably end up looking something like this:
#1 - Dog Soldiers
#2 - Werewolf TV-show (Skorzeny wolf)
#3 - Underworld (Lycans)
#4 - Bram Stoker's Dracula
#5 - An American Werewolf In London
#6 - The Wolfman 2010
NB - The main reason AWIL scores fairly low for me is the fact it's not a bipedal design. I've also left out the undeniable classic "The Howling", for the simple fact I've never been a big fan of the movie as a whole (Rob Bottin is a true monster master though...)

This is a fairly good pick for design i.m.o. However, I did find the movie a bit too uneven as far as the monster action is concerned. They sure could've used another take or two in some of those brightly lit scenes...

Pretty much agree with this, I also really like Wolf and The Howling but yes there are 2 or 3 really distinct takes on werewolf designs. I really love AWIL and the effects for their time are amazing but was never really a fan of the design. Werewolf TV show I loved at the time, brings back great memories.

I rewatched Bad Moon recently. Great practical effects, but those early CGI morphing effects... yikes.
It was also pretty funny how there was a full moon seemingly every other night.

Saw the film last night with coworkers. It's complete ****. Idk how they thought this film was going to be any good It's just a weird take on the werewolf that it doesn't add anything new or special.
I liked it.
I had zero expectations and already knew I was not going to hate the werewolf design
Well I thought the Wolfman was a bit better especially if you accept the fact it’s not your typical wolfman
Had some things I didn’t expect. Felt the movie got across its tragic atmosphere throughout the film.
Little to no CGI was a treat

Sure there is. It’s not traditional movie werewolf.
There are all sorts of interpretations.
There is a found footage movie called Wer. Which was better than average werewolf. Just a large hairy man with sharp teeth and claws

For me, the werewolf design is very important in a werewolf movie.
Yes there are variations and old medieval wood cuttings, but there is zero wolfiness in the design in this new Wolfman movie, that's an enormous failure in my book.
I get that.
For me there was enough wolf in him. Especially the original wolf that scratched him.
There are not many good, serious, and well made Werwolf movies IMO. Give me this over a movie with a more traditional werewolf any day. I’m looking at you Silver Bullet, The Wolfman (2010), Bad Moon and Werewolves (2024)
This one worked for me. Maybe it’s cause I’m a dad IDK. My best friend liked it also though he was not crazy about the characters overall.
PS - I have to give Bad Moon another shot. I was so disappointed in it after pouring over Fangoria photos of the werewolf.

To be fair one of the best "wolfman" designs was from The Wolfman 2010. I agree with ScoutingForToys the design in this film wasn't really a true wolfman or werewolf. I think it's due to the director wanting it to be more of a disease/infection as he took some inspiration from covid (typical Hollywood modern mindset), and someone infected being locked in a house with people. Idk it's just stupid to me how they went about the film. It wasn't really scary or terrifying in the end so it didn't really keep me engaged, even my coworker was falling asleep at some point. Overall they did have some good cinematography, and the practical effects were good but it definitely didn't help in the end.
