Jazzinc Dioramas 1/12 1989 Batwing

Ok guys, Joost has recently officially announced that the 1/12 1989 Batwing is in the works.
His decision to produce the 1/12 Batwing over the Batmobile is due to the fact that he thinks the Batwing has a larger audience from both 1/12 and 1/6 communities.
Even for a lot of 1/6 collectors, the 1/6 Batwing was still too pricey and took way too space.
This is what the pool’s results on the FB page have shown.

A prototype could be ready for this summer with the following dimension specs:

22,50 X 26,20 X 7,2 inches
57,1 X 66,5 X 18,4 CM

Very happy, as it was the only item that I missed for my collection.
Really hope it will se the light of day!

it will be done via Kickstarter, all their future 1/12 products rides on this one being successful. If the backing behind this 1/12 Batwing doesn't get enough support then say bye bye to future 1/12 projects because their 1/12 BvS Batmobile sales were terrible.

Joost said prototypes of 1/12 Batwing be shown around April.

Any idea yet of the price for this? I'd love to have one and it would be a much more manageable size, but not sure I really want to pay 89 Batmobile prices for it...

Ah sugar. I still haven't put my 1/6 on display. Didn't think we'd ever see a 1/12, which would go much more nicely with the 1/12 TDKR Bat.

Nah even a HT version would be around $600. I'm think this would be at least a grand.

Doubt that. The HT 1/6 Batmobile was $700+. No way a 1/12 scale Batwing should reach near that price.

It's essentially the size of a large dinner plate. If they want $600± for a 1/12 vehicle from pretty much any franchise, they're going to see how fickle 1/12 scale collectors are with their spending pretty fast.

There would be far more 1/12 collectors interested than there would be 1/6 imo.

Which is good news, but i suspect it'll cost somewhere in the 400-500 range, which is seems reasonable to me too.

Anything over $350 and I don't see that happening. There are not enough 1/6 collectors interested imo. And 1/12 collectors won't pay $500-$600 to replace their McFarlane versions.

Pretty crazy that there's a market for a $1500 batmobile and a $100 batmobile, but not enough interest for a $500. Are people either loaded with their own warehouse or only collect cheap plastic crap?

Because $500 is absurd for a 1/12 Batwing, even from JazzInc.

The dewback deluxe on it's own is $500 and that's a big hunk of plastic with a few bits. I'd say there's even less engineering that went into that. Maybe this is more of a 'community' thing rather than being about general value for money.

Wasn't this like $1000? I wouldn't say it's worth double that of a 1/12 'figure' version. Again, I just don't get how there isn't a decent market for high end 1/12 sized 'toys' when you can get similar sized statues for twice the price with less engineering and softer details.

Again, maybe it's a community thing and I just don't get these communities. :dunno

True. I'm not of the mindset that this would sell well, but I do hope it comes to fruition.

Because 1/12 collectors are generally of two types.

- $20 - $30 Hasbro/McFarlane
- $80 - $150 SHF/Mafex

Neither of these catagories are interested in spending much more than what they're used to for their products. A cheap vehicle here and there from McFarlane, and they're pretty content. If even that.

It's just a completey different community with its own expectations on value vs price.

Multiple hundreds of dollars for a single piece is not a price bracket that 1/12 collectors are used to or interested in paying imo.

High quality be damned. It's the price they're uncomfortable with. These are the same folks waiting on their Black Series and ML to hit Olies for a steep discount a year after release, before they're ready to buy them.

26 inches would be quite a big dinner plate.

But if Joost already said this would be in the $300 range then I'm totally good with that. I just assumed, even if the research was already done, that it would still require a lot of expensive new molds.

No 1/12 collector is buying that. More like for the statue crowd which the products are absurdly priced.

@Mr. Awesome described it reasonably. Even at the high end range of 1/12, most will not spend 400 or more on a vehicle. I think the range starts at 300. I think if it can be brought down to 250, it will attract more buyers.

I would say I don't agree with the poll having the batwing as the more popular choice over the batmobile. You're asking a group with mostly 1/6 collectors what 1/12 product will sell more. Sure there is crossover between collectors such as myself and I have more 1/12 stuff by a big number compared to 1/6. However, I would have never voted for the batwing over the batmobile. I feel most people that voted for the batwing in that closed group are just 1/6 collectors that can't find a way to display the a 1/6 batwing had they bought one.

I'd love to see this get made for $300. I also think they'd do a stellar job on it. They seem to care about the source material.

Understood, but I'm assuming this would appeal to more than just 1/12 collectors, but instead anyone who's just always wanted a perfectly accurate 89 Batwing in their collection. Since the only other option in a very old AMT model kit.
