The new fuse of the DJ face mask can be seen in the assembled picture. I quickly edited the fuse blob out of the dome to create this image. I trimmed a lot of the slices from unnecessary bits to create a cleaner version and re-aligned some of the additional slices to better match the model eliminating a lot of the previous errors. Also managed to fuse it in a higher resolution so the edges are a lot sharper - more in line with the other pieces.

Now I just need to fix the ESB face mask fuse, as well as work some more on the ESB dome and chest and belt boxes.

A small update: The DJ as well as the rest of the v2 project will hopefully be printed in the early months of next year once all the 3D models have been finished and prepared for printing. Once I've gotten them back and after I've inspected it I will send everything as well as some of the already printed v2 pieces on to the new producer who will mold and cast these for me and make them available. I'm hoping the schedule holds, but delays can happen, but I'm crossing everything I have in order for everything to go well.

Expect updates all along the way as this is gearing up for finalization. Armor kits and busts first and then statues later.

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to seeing these getting finished and painted up. There's actually a lot of work going into getting these models ready for printing and I get continually excited whenever one of the models is nearing completion. I'll spend much of January myself fixing the parts on the chest and belt boxes, while other 3D modelers will work on other parts. I'm actually learning new 3D modeling skills, though very crude, while working on these models and trying to make them the best that they can be. :)

It looks phenomenal. And you’re no slouch when it comes to accuracy and knowledge of the subject matter. While doing research of my own, I have seen your avatar and input on 1:1 scale forums dating back several years. I trust your eye.

Can’t wait to get one of these from you. will you be offering them painted and finished?

Looking forward to it Carsten. I have no doubt that the finished parts will be the highlight of anyone's collection.

I've retired my WIP Vader parts as they won't be anywhere as awesome as these.

Thanks guys. I have enjoyed discussing Vader and especially the helmet over the years on several forums, but I still seek out advise and assistance from people who know more than me, because sometimes you can go blind focusing on something and then an extra set of eyes can be of great help. Honestly, I have gotten so much help with these I can't thank everybody enough. Incidentally, even people who haven't studied Vader as much can be an eye opener as they can sometimes shake up in-grown ideas that turn out to be wrong.

I won't do the molding and casting myself. The current plan is to offer the parts raw, as it may be too much for my producer to paint them as well. Also, because these will not be prepared for HT or Sideshow bodies. I own neither and it would mean more work than I'm willing to put into this. Everyone will have to do that work on their own. I know it may dissuade some from buying these, but I have to prioritize my time and effort to what I initially created these for - the statues I'm still working on. The armor kits was just a kind of afterthought, since I had already scanned it, and people might be interested in it for their HT or Sideshow mods - but this will be for skilled modelers.

Aww man, Paul, I was really looking forward to seeing your WIP's progress. I really think you should continue working on them and perfecting them, if nothing else then for the satisfaction of completing them... and you will lean a lot by working on them you may not learn from working with the casts from me.

This is coming together so well. I would love to get a helmet and full armor set when offered. Is there an interest list I could get on?

Having held the helmet that this scan came from in my hands, I am ABSOLUTELY thrilled to know that a 1/6 version of it is on the horizon. This is really fantastic Carsten. Please keep us posted on it. I don't care how raw it is, it's a MUST HAVE IMHO.

I think I'm done working on the chest boxes. I fixed the lights on both boxes and the greeblies on the ESB box. Can't say it's perfect and it may be difficult to see in the picture, but the lights are now extending out from the box a bit more and were narrowed vertically - I didn't have measurements of the original lights used, so scaled them by eye and re-positioned them on the box.

Though the original boxes were really wonky, which is something I simply don't have the skill to do with the models, I think I'm getting pretty close to how it should look. If you spot anything that could need more work, please let me know.

I'll try and get the belt boxes finished as well. Still need to try my hand at creating the knurling effect on the metal rods and perhaps tweak some of the other bits, but it's slowly getting there.

Old boxes are on the left and new boxes are on the right:

Working on the ESB face mask. Am having a bit of trouble with the chin vent opening. I simply cut it open in the first picture below, but it needs to be fixed properly. Just not sure how to do it yet.

As you can probably tell it's a little different than the previous ESB face mask I had printed some time back. It no longer has the neck extension of the previous model. It is also a lot sharper and I was able to place the grill deeper in the mouth opening due to fixing the issue with the mouth on the model. All in all much better if I could just figure out how to fix the chin vent.

New to the left, old version to the right.

And thought it could be fun to show off the TM based face mask models. ANH towards the left in the picture, symmetrical ANH in the middle and the ESB WIP towards the right. Currently the chin vent fix is very crude, so I'll work on making that look better.

Carsten,
May I ask why you've done a symmetrical ANH mask? Surely the purpose of this is to make it as close to the full sized original mask as possible? Hopefully you'll be offering the asymmetrical version for those of us who are looking for as close to accurate 1/6th version of the prop?
