Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

I didn't see this set of pics till after I'd ordered. I never thought of opening the thumbnails in the BCS site. Some of these are great. I loaded the set into my iPad.

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

They sure are! It'll be a dream come true when this one finally arrives. Really happy that it was easy as to get the sig version too! :dance

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

Too true. I was getting concerned that I might miss out, but it was very pleased to find that 6 minutes after the doors opened, I had one!
At the time of the Fourth Doctor, the toys were starting to come out, and this, is the best Fourth Doctor toy there could be.

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

It seems that way. It's called Schadenfreude.

I read about a deliciously spiteful Bosnian phrase in the paper today:

I am happy because my neighbour's cow is sick!

but joking aside... it's not nice to enjoy other people's misfortune,

BUT

it's no fun being a British collector of action figures. Anyone who's ever had to pay a £60 customs charge from Parcelforce, who have done nothing more than open your parcel from America and close it again will have limited sympathy for anyone else who happens to be in a different country from the action figure they want.

It is as if some ppl make it seem as if the ppl in the other countries are the ones who are doing the custom charges. Funny thing is that ppl in other countries have to pay some additional fees as well.

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

I've had to pay €110 (£95) to get Amy Pond through customs. About the same for my 3 11th Doctors each.

Well, we have to pay VAT, which is a crime against God.

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

UK VAT is ridiculous. I'm so glad I left I that place, as they rip you off on everything. The only thing I missed was Doctor Who and, yes, that was it really Doctor Who. Fortunately I watch it only an hour after transmission, when its on.
Back, and Fourth.. I keep going back to those BCS photos. It is really cool. Thing is, there really are two figures there. Fully decked out with hat on head, and the jacketless, hatless version. They do look dissimilar enough to be be able to be displayed side by side. Very tempted to get another.

Awesome saying.

First of all, I have plenty of sympathy for British collectors who get hit with rough fees. Even if they're not going to return the favor. Maybe all that free health care can almost make up for it? ;)

BUT no one here was ever looking for sympathy, just stating the facts. There are a limited number of characters I'd be willing to pay that premium for.

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

I get your point.
Me though, I'm a sucker for Who, so I will pay the bucks. I would happily buy all the Doctors. And I'm sure I will, but at a max of four per year, that could take two full years after this to have them released,p. I think we will see other characters in the mean time, pushing that to a realistic three years. Then the variations will come out.
I have to say that if the next 11 was in his final, very Doctorish outfit from those last couple of episodes, I'd be in right away, as he was looking great as the Doctor. The fez thing was a gag in the show, and would really make for a poor figure choice, in my opinion.

I suspect 10 and 4 will be the only ones I get sig editions for. I hope to buy all of the other Doctors, but I'm hoping to pay around $189 instead of $260 each.

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

I know that I will chase the signature editions. I think it's a neat way to collect signatures. In the UK, I'd go to cons or signing sessions etc, and I collected them, but that was years ago, and they are all....gone. Not that I sold any or anything... They are just gone from my hands.
I liked the signed pics I had, but I really do like the signed action figure idea a whole lot more.

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

It is really hard to say if the current business model is working for because of several reasons:

Not all preorders will be fulfilled since I am sure there will be people backing out in the next few months - I recall that the signature Amy Pond figure was preorder sold out, but now is available.

Tom Baker and David Tennant are the definitive Classic Doctor and the definitive Modern Doctors, respectively. This model could work for Doctor 1-3, but possibly not for the other Doctors. Such a model would not work on a non-Doctor character either. Both editions of Amy Pond are still available on their site.

Not all the stock for the 10th and 4th Doctor might not be pre-sold out. BCS might have hold some off for regular orders.

You are also not alone in not buying every figure if the new model persist. The reason why the two 50th anniversary figures are sold out simply because they are two of the month popular Doctors ever. Everyone wants a David Tennant and a Tom Baker figure. However, who is to say that people would spend that much for a Sylvester McCoy, a Colin Baker, or a Paul McGann figure? It is possible people would spend that much for a Sarah Jane figure, but what about Perri Brown?

Paul McGann is actualy my #1 wanted Doctor After Tennant.

:exactly:

I don't know how we got off on this long thing about different prices different people pay here and there.

At the end of the day, there is just a cap for how much people are willing to pay for a particular product. It can vary depending on the person. Their love of Doctor Who. Their finances. And their personal perception of the "worth" of something.

And all I, and others, are saying is... BCS is pushing it with exclusive figures. I totally get WHY they are doing it. And, to me, they were worth it. But I know quite a few Who fans who wanted these but just couldn't do it. So I'm hoping this is just a one-year deal to stabilize the company and get as much cash flowing as they can.

My worry is that, since it was successful (yay!) they might consider it as a permanent solution, which I know would not really work for me.

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

I'll say I'm more interested in him than 6 or 7....

McGann had an interesting look, which would make him a good looking figure.

Although I would buy them all if they came out, I think in order of getting excited over the actual release , the Third Doctor would hit the highest score. Followed in descending order... The First, The Ninth, The Eighth, The Sixth, The Seventh, The Second, The Fifth.
Not knowing where The Twelfth fits in there, but I'm sure he will be out next year. And that is the first time I have ever written that word.. It looks wrong!

I think you over-value 6 and 7 and undervalue 2 and 5. But I'm a huge fan of 3.

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

I am interested in their look. The Sixth had a bizarre look that would lend itself well to a figure. I have to say I never liked Davisons look as The Fifth.
However, The Third, Mr. Pertwee is awesome in every regard. I just hope they get a great head sculpt.

But which colour jacket would you want? The look I associate most closely with him - red velvet jacket - has never been made by CO as an action figure.
