Fedex rant begins.
So, unlike most people it seems - I did get shipping notices for Tom and David and both were to be delivered on Monday. I immediately go line to do the online signature release for both. On Monday on the way home I get a call from Fedex telling me the delivery center is open late if I want to pick up the package that the driver refused to deliver because it needed a signature. She found that I had done the signature release thing, and didn't know why the driver hadn't left it. So I went to pick up both my packages - confident that 2 packages destined for the same address, leaving the same place at the same time would both arrive at the same time.
Not so - Tom landed safely, but David was stuck somewhere in New Jersey with no sign that he'd be moving any time soon.
Got home early today - note on the door - Fedex had tried to deliver David - but once again the signature release had been ignored. ARGGH. I HATE FEDEX.
rant over.
Tom is gorgeous! I had been impressed with the pics so far, but the impact in hand is overwhelming. I LOVE the posable scarf - he can be dashing down a corridor with the scarf sticking out behind him.
No problems with the body either - stands on his own, holds any pose. The hands are an unbelieavably soft material - I'd be afraid to breath on them after eating chilli they seem so fragile - but they hold the accessories okay - no droppage so far.
Couple of issues -
My base wouldn't light up though - I don't have these size batteries so I can't test if that is the problem. And after minimal play time the finish on the base gets scratched extremely easily.
But overall _ I'm very happy with Tom if and if FedEx ever decides to release 10 from his shipping prison - hopefully I'll feel the same about him.
I think FEDEX is just swamped right now. Congrats on getting Tom. Maybe when David shows up you can see if it is a battery issue? I ordered a pair on Amazon for 2.25.
UGH. That sounds awful.
Glad you're liking Tom, though! You too, Niceman!
I actually really like the hands, for the most part. It's nice to not have to worry about swapping hands and breaking pegs. BUT, I do wish he could hold his hat. I haven't tried to see if Hot Toys hands can fit on them, but it looks like the peg might be a bit small for that.
The only thing that kind of bugs me about the figure, now (other than the easily scratched mirror surface) is the color of the scarf. I can totally live with it, don't get me wrong, but I got "The Invisible Enemy" on DVD for Christmas from my Secret Santa. Not the show's finest hour, but it was the first time I'd watched a 4th Doctor episode in quite a while. And the colors just really are WAY off. I don't know if they were limited by the production technique or what, but if they do future expansion kits they really should revisit this.
For those with battery issues, have you tried wedging some tinfoil in there to make the fit tighter? Not sure if it'll help, but I've encountered weak light like that before and it sometimes helps to force the battery harder onto the connection.
I was
So the 4th Doctor Stand, is it supposed to be blue, or be a mirror? There is a thin blue film on the base...is that just to cover the mirror in the box?
Yes, I'm sure they're swamped. That's why they should honor online signature confirmations so they won't have to be lugging packages back and forth multiple times...
My first post here. Hello all!
I got to pull my Tom from under the tree today. I must admit that seeing the prototype I had some minor reservations. Still, I thought, a 1/6 Tom? Only a thousand being sold? How could I not?
Having it in hand today all my reservations are gone. I love the head sculpt. If you tilt the head and get the arms a certain way then there is a little Tom on your shelf, ready to come to life. The five o'clock shadow is not too strong on mine, but more like a subtle shading (on screen he didn't really ever have stubble, but it does add a life-like quality to the figure).
The ankles are a bit weak but it is the same on my Hot Toys Jack Nicholson Joker, so I can't say Big Chief are any worse than their peers there. Oh and I suppose bubbles in the key to time, but that doesn't actually bother me. I never intended to pose the figure often with that accessory and the bubbles don't really make the key look that bad to me. It's like a key to time lava lamp. I understand if big fans of that season are miffed, though. Looks good sitting next to my base being snatched at by a fiendish hand of Eldrad.
I'm not listing positives because everything else seems pretty top notch as far as I can see. It's a case of 'much better in the hand then in the advertisements'.
I'd post a photo but I am too much of a newbie to be allowed to post images yet!
Hope everyone else is having as much fun with their figures as I am with mine. I am a little boy again. The Tom Baker fan in me is delighted!
Those are fantastic photos, Niceman!
