Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

Haha, I agree that he might not be their first choice, due to popularity, but I'm a Colin fan and it'd be one I'd love to see. That costume on the shelf in sixth scale would sure be eye-catching!

Also, Big Chief should do the living Doctors while they can. If they want the special autographed editions, approved by the actors, then they should get busy.

I don't want to be gloomy, but Colin is 70, Sylvester is 70, Peter Davison is 62. None of them are old, exactly, especially not Davison, and I hope we see them all wowing us at conventions for twenty more years, Stan Lee style, but they are all at the age when sudden changes of fortune health-wise are not unheard of (touch wood). Don't leave a Colin figure till last, ten years down the track. Do Colin and Sylvester figures now, so the genuine articles can gurn in photos with their miniature selves and autograph a bunch.

Also, they both got a bit of a raw deal in their runs and tend to be the butt of 'classic Doctor Who was silly' clip-show-type jokes, so it is always nice to remind them that they are appreciated by the fanbase too!

Colin didn't always have the best writing or production values, but he was and is a great doc, and does good work in Big Finish! And, as people say, many still have a few beloved stories from his era. Mine 'Vengeance on Varos'.

The exercise bike accessory could be a bit cumbersome, though. You could have an orange wig to put on your Sylvester figure for a regeneration scene! :p

Well said.

Even if they don't rush forward to release Five, Six, and Seven, they would be wise to get the contract signed and get signature edition side of things as far as the signed plaques go sorted sooner, rather than later (if they can afford to do so). Particularly in regards to Baker and McCoy.

After all, we sadly lost both William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton when they were only 67, so at 70 both McCoy and Baker have, sadly, a lot more years behind them than they do left in front of them.

I'd really love to have a signed plaque and figure immortalizing all three on my shelf one day, joining Smith, Tennant, and the Baker called Tom. Here's to hoping.

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

do hope they get there act together abit, if so skys the limit for BCS i think.

i ordered a 4th doc, payed in full but didnt get anything via bigchief in regards to a order confirmation email. got the paypal recipet via paypal but all quiet from BCS. no idea when it ships or any word in that regard as well. i will email them and ask but for a random customer not knowing BCS is new that treatment wouldnt be as forgiven dont think. simple things like a order confirmation/thks email, that prolly should be automated i think would help them step it up big time. def in BCS corner and want to see them improve in all areas.
btw i ordered before they said email was down.

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

Yeah BCS really needs to work on a notification system for pending orders. Hopefully their new website takes care of that.

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

very much looking forward to the new website design!

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

Well, I got my replacement batteries in the mail today finally and that did the trick. My bases are both lighting up properly! :)

I did have to write to Big Chief though. I finally got a chance to look at my Key To Time and it is very badly filled with bubbles. So HOPEFULLY they won't make it too hard to get a replacement Key.

EDIT: Just got an automated response from BC. That's a step up right there!

"Thank you for contacting BIG Chief Studios Ltd. support.

Your custom is important to us and we aim to respond to your email within 72 hours.

Please note at this time of year, we are especially busy and as such responses might be subject to delay. We thank you for bearing with us as we work our way through the correspondence.

Kind regards
The BIG Chief Team"

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

Someone else on another board said they got a reply about the bubbles and they said they were all pretty much the same.

Glad to hear the batteries fixed it! Mine in my 4th Doctor are very faint. So I think it is just crap batteries for some people, at least.

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

I thought the bubbles were supposed to be there?

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

Um sure. Just call them "time bubbles" and you are on your way! :lol

The pics on BCs site sure didn't have bubbles.....

Prolly because it was a "pro-to-type". You know, those things that are pretty much lovingly made from scratch by well-paid artists and craftsmen that nearly always look better than what the factories give us. I believe we discuss these "pro-to-types" and how they differ from "pro-duk-shun" pieces (which are made on an assembly line by people making pennies on the dollar) from time to time in nearly every 1:6/Statue/Prop thread. :lol

Jeez.

I just got finished talking to Mark at BC. He told me that all Key to Times have this issue, and I told him I'll let it go since I do love the figures and I'm amazed they got them to me on Christmas Eve.

But Pixel, you gotta be such a jerk? Again, I chose to be nice and drop the issue with Big Chief, but I would have expected ANY other company to replace an accessory with such a glaring error. Are you still upset that Colin isn't a popular Doctor or something?

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

:lol

Chillax Niceman. I was just kidding.

Re: Colin. Yes.

Seriously? People are taking issue over tiny air bubbles in clear plastic resin? :huh

Hey, if you want to charge top dollar, you have to expect that any little flaw is going to be scrutinized. If you bought an expensive new car, and noticed a scratch in the paint, even just a little one, you wouldn't say something to the dealer?

Good analogy. I can agree with that.

+1 ! :exactly:

$300 is alot of money for me, def expect a product to be high end at that price and see no prob nit-picking at that price either.

To be fair, they are pretty massive in my case.

But, as I said, I have dropped the issue.

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

In my mind it makes the key to time a disposable accessory, as I find it undisplayable looking like that. The huge air bubbles really do ruin the look of that accessory almost completely in my view.

It doesn't bother me that much, but only because I wasn't that hyped about using it to begin with, so my disappointment was relatively minor as a result. But the air bubbles do seem a bit amatuer hour, especially for a piece at this price range.

Yes, the one consolation is that it is the one accessory that's incongruous with this version of Tom. Personally, I would never take it out of the package. Why they gave him that instead of, say, the little control panel from Pyramids of Mars is beyond me.

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

Have you guys ever worked with clear plastic resins? Good luck getting all of the tiny little air bubbles out. And remember, these are made at a factory in China. :lecture
