Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

I don't think you'll cancel. I think you are off in a spiral right now and will eventually return to reality - where nothing is ever perfect - only close ;-)

Wow, lots of interesting discussion today. I'm not going to touch any of the who's beautiful or not stuff. It's irrelevant. I have to admit that whatever Agromenauer did to the sculpt, really is an improvement. I wish that was the sculpt we were getting. That being said, I will not be placing this behind a large magnifying glass and looking at it from 3 inches away. I look at my figures from a normal distance. As long as HT doesn't do another John Matrix (how did that go so wrong) what I see in the promo pictures is going to be just fine.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

He used parts of the real Sigourney Weaver's face. A little pointless to say, look all you need to do Hot Toys is use more elements of her face--like her mouth and eyes. Presumably that's what they were trying to do in the first place, just with a different reference photo than the one used above.

Yes. I guess we could do that with all sculpts. Take a photo that shows the character as you want it and photoshop it on ti the sculpt and then say 'there you go, that's how it's supposed to be'...

Ahhh, gotcha. Well from now on Hot Toys should just cut out pictures of faces and glue them on sticks. That should work just fine.

Yeah, with so many reference pictures to choose from, you can't always pick the look that's going to make everyone happy, not that that's even possible. I know that somewhere back in the thread, someone posted a publicity photo. That's not something you can legitimately use for comparison. It almost never represents the "actual look" in the movie.

LOL I guess great minds think alike.

Exactly, but that publicity photo is exactly the one that was used by Agromenauer to photoshop the sculpt... So there you go.

Yep. Still not a bad resource for seeing how the sculpt might be better but physical sculpting is a whole different ballgame I expect.

It is and that's why sculpts are (almost) never perfect when seen next to a photo of the actor.

:lol That's going to be my new modding technique for any of my subpar figures. :clap

After that, I made a new Photoshop retouch using the official picture only. No Weaver picture mixed here.

Showing more of the upper eyelid is key to making the sculpt stronger.
HT just needs to make that one tweek.

Something weird happened to her eyes. Too far apart, maybe.

Anyway, I agree with Spartan Rex. The eye's shape, that upper eye lid in particular, is pretty key, and I don't think Hot Toys got them quite right, which happens quite often with them. If anything your original face transplant shows that area could potentially be improved.

You darkened around and under her eyes it looks like, right?? All more fodder to me where I think painting and lighting is going to be the ultimate key as to how 'good' it will look in real life once it's in our hands. If the painter has an 'off' day they could really ruin it.

Yes. I have cleaned the frown, I have made her eyes bigger (upper eye lid) and I have added shadows under them.

Be careful now, if that image gets copied and put onto another forum it could cause big confusion!
Please, lets not make too many of these alterations and stick to the original :) .

Tons of activity on this forum today, new faces as well, just shows the interest in this piece!

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

theyre probably gonna release the white suit version of ripley later on right? they already have the sculpt, just needs to be painted white and maybe give her different hair to fit in the helmet

No ''probably'' about it. No assumptions can or should be made about Hot Toys and any non-Marvel license. You only set yourself up for disappointment because it'll either never happen or it'll take years longer than you'd like.
