Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Yup, Returns Batman, John Matrix, Arkham Batman, Marty McFly and Police Shootout T-800.

It's like that's it, that's the best you have to show for all those years of development and anticipation? They really feel "obligatory" like they're just thrown out there last minute to shut people up.

Not quite the same as each of those. Other than Batman Returns we weren't looking at prototypes of those figures for 2 years before we were even able to order them. Full specs and pics appeared out of the blue and preorders followed in the usual short timeframe after that. With Ripley the effect is that by time it eventually went up for order we've gotten so used to the figure that it feels like it isn't new, like we already own it.

Of course many of those figures felt underwhelming because...well they were for one reason or another. Batman Returns ended up having the same crappy Wayne headsculpt as the prototype, the same stupid mouth-pieces, leg posing was even more limited than the DX09 and there was QC issues. John Matrix went from a reasonable Arnie likeness in the prototype to sweet **** all likeness on the final figure and Police Shootout T-800 never really had a great likeness plus had the major disappointment of the head/body proportions screw-up; the only way that figure didn't disappoint was if it was your very first Terminator figure and you had no frame of reference to compare it against.

Marty McFly was great though. I had no complaints about that figure. I simply realised it was a mistake for me to buy into a line for a movie that I had never before owned toys from.

oh so you don't want to ACCEPT IT.
well then howbout you stop objectifying and rating MMS238. it's pretty pathetic. as for the figure, if you don't like it, well then don't buy it. Just cause hot toys didn't nail the likeness doesn't mean they owe it to you to make it exact to your standards. And if you're upset about it not being perfect and resort to rating/saying it isn't bulky to begin with than you don't even deserve to have the damn thing. ya quit with this negative crap.

P. is being sarcastic and mocking people that complain about complainers, right guys? This is a humorous P. correct?

I was searching for a "DON'T LIKE, DON'T BUY" gif, but mostly just found a bunch of gun nut bumper stickers. . .and this:

Why? Is it because you prefer to collect upgraded versions of toys you had as a kid and therefore Marty didn't have any nostalgic appeal? Just curious.

Exactly. If I was made of money it wouldn't matter, I'd buy everything. However I do have to look for reasons not to buy stuff and that is one of the walls I've put up - did I ever want to play Back to the Future when I was a child? Answer is no. So I sold him and in doing so killed any need for the Delorean. The lack of Doc Brown is further vindication.

I hear you. Other than Star Wars the only "figures" I have are the First Avenger Cap PF and Frodo PF. Not only because I thought they were great movies but to me they will forever be linked to these:

Whereas I've just never pulled the trigger (though I've certainly been tempted) on anything Batman, RoboCop, ALIENS, Terminator, etc., related. All great properties that to me were always totally compartmentalized within the films themselves. I could still see myself making an exception for a great Hicks figure though.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

hmmm. wanted to think "so that how it works", but remembered that i had some batman/batmobile toys during childhood and actually liked them and the character - but ditched that branch and never was interested later. on the other hand i couldn't gain any access to robocop/alien/predator/terminator toys or movies but became and remained a fan of them. don't ask how it could happen from the beginning. i don't remember.

I'm going to make a custom wig for her, if they don't revert back to rooted hair.
I've already begun cutting off and saving my pubic hair.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Agromenauer is that just Sigourney's actual face blended onto the Hot Toys figure or did you take the original Hot Toys pic and adjust it while looking at a pic of the real Sigourney?

Hope I'm making sense there.

If you just transplanted her actual face onto the figure, well, that's not particularly helpful - of course that's going to look better. But if this was your own painstaking adjustments to the HT sculpt to achieve that, well, you nailed it. If the likeness had come out that good I'd have to reconsider my position on only buying the Aliens version.

Not a Weaver picture mixed with prototype

Sorry, but I have mixed REAL WEAVER FACE over figure head. The face you see is REAL Sigourney...

The picture I have mixed over HT official picture is this
