Thanks I really hope we're getting a Lone Ranger. I read somewhere that Disney didn't approve the head sculpt. Can anyone confirm this? Now is the time, Hot Toys, to tell us there's a Lone Ranger coming. Please.

Yeah, in a Q&A a while back Howard Chan said there'd been a lot of back-and-forth with the head sculpt and they missed the marketing window of opportunity. Hope they take advantage of the buzz with Tonto shipping to offer the Ranger - or at least make him a convention exclusive.

(Of course, we can also hope Hot Toys are contractually obliged to Disney to make it!)

My only concern is that they haven't even offered it for preorder yet. Even if the head sculpt wasn't approved they could still post it with the usual "pending licensor approval" disclaimer.

But if it *is* a convention exclusive, that may be why it's been kept under wraps. Also maybe they're waiting to gauge the response to Tonto.

They've had some more obscure/supporting characters as toy fairs exclusives in the past, plus the Ranger has the Tonto factor to help it sell ...

Basically there are three scenarios:

1. The Lone Ranger license isn't viable, and HT are counting on Depp fans helping them recoup at least some of their costs (hence the almost illegible LR logo on the box!)
2. HT will wait and see if demand for Tonto justifies releasing the Ranger
3. The Ranger will be a convention exclusive

Yes, it seems inconceivable that Hot Toys would (a) split up such an iconic duo and (b) put him in their catalog and then not produce him.

Here's hoping they haven't decided to cut their losses and only target the Depp fans. A limited-edition convention-exclusive Ranger would shift more Tontos as well.
