:goodpost: Exactly. People/collectors get too hung up with how something feels in the hand, rather than how it looks. And like you said, I guarantee HT could make the same exact figure without the metal in it.

We are paying a good $60+ premium for like $5 worth of cheap crap pot metal. Yay for us... :yess:

The only exception would be Hulkbuster due to it's size and weight to reinforce the joints/hinges.. That's about it. But we want our Iron Man to be Iron.
Shame on Hot Toys for making pieces of Iron man metal. How dare they :).

It is nice to feel some weight to a figure.

Would be cool though if you had the option to get diecast or not.

Deluxe or regular kind of thing.

Yes, the weight is nice and it feels good in hand, but not for a high premium. We had to pay for all the new tech & tooling HT had to develop to give us our "Iron" Iron men. Most collectors, like myself, put it in a case and admire it from afar very rarely ever touching it once it's set up. These are toys/collectibles after all... Not prop/real world replica's.

And yea it would be nice to have a choice, but that wouldn't help the cost. If anything it would hurt it as splitting the % made to plastic and metal would raise the manufacturing costs most likely.

The problem with the diecast issue is the cost. It doesn’t actually, now that the new machines and methods are in place, cost any more to make diecast. They charge a premium because folks think it equates to quality. It’s marketing, plain and simple. The figures are still mostly plastic. They could make them feel heavier with a couple pieces of cheap metal inside and it accomplishes the same thing. Sure the weight is a nice little thing when you pick them up. Is it worth 25-30% extra given the figure is not being held for 99% of the time? I’d say no.

As for the option to have diecast or plastic. Doubt that ever happens. The most expensive part of production is tooling and the tooling for how diecast and plastic injection are made is entirely different. It’s thousands of dollars extra to do a couple pieces and you cut your overall customer base down. Meaning instead of having one figure release and the tooling costs totally split up between the entire production run you now have a base figure and then all the diecast and plastic pieces that are the same are only bought by that portion of the customers. So it adds more in production cost and you gain almost no sales. They would have to raise the price to get it to work.

I've noticed. When I first started frequenting these boards, you were like, raging fire. Now you're more like, smoldering fire.

You have made some good points and I agree with every thing you said , thanks for a well thought out post this really helps other people understand the situation.

For me I don't mind plastic of Die cast , I just want a good well made figure that will last. Some times I look at my figures and think mmm that part looks delicate ,would be nice if it was metal , I know you can only create things so strong when then are small in plastic so that's when metal comes in to play.

Just don't try and make yourself out to be more than you really are, Motux, you don't need to. Just be yourself. This isn't a dig nor a shot at you. Just open and honest dialog, freak to freak. The past is the past and I look forward to posting on here with you down the road :duff

Anybody have any idea of what shipping would be like for the figure + gantry set from SS?

Went to order today from timewalker and saw it was on waitlist (and sold out at BBTS)....was spreading out my orders with NRD and of course it bites me in the ***. So looks like I'm stuck with SS but wanted to get an idea of shipping cost. I know its an over sized box so I'm assuming its more than their standard 20-25 bucks, but wondering what the ceiling might look like.

I ask because I also went to AE and while they have it for order, they quoted me $72 dollars for shipping out to CA..... and got nervous about how much SS would be charging.

Anyways, looking forward to your input while I beat myself up for not pre-ordering at timewalker sooner!

Hulkbuster was only 70 bucks to Michigan so it’s gonna be under that.

Hmm yeah I actually looked at a different place, and they quoted me $39 from RI to CA.... not sure where AE got that number from..... Going to give them a call in the morning and see what the deal is.

Edit: looked on cotsworth and it was only $26...

Yeah I would say 30ish or less would be about right.

Yeah I would think it should be about the same. Now the question is do I order from SS or go third party. With SS its about 50 bucks more with shipping and taxes when i use some reward points but since this figure is so big/expensive/intricate might be nice to have the SS parachute in that if something is broken they will have a replacement.... vs some of these smaller shops probably wont. Also there is the benefit of the SS flex pay which for something this expensive might be nice to take advantage of.

I use Sideshow for most orders. The added cost I see as insurance for broken stuff. Doesn’t happen much but it does happen. Flex pay is nice as well. The rewards are awesome. I get a couple free figures or statues a year. So my vote would be SS.

You could also wait it out. BBTS seems to get more stock in than what they sell for pre-order. Sideshow will have it for pre-order up until it ships out.

Nah, I it’s just people cancel or don’t pay, so that opens up the extra BBTS stock.

Yeah, I figure this release will be a good test case to see. Would people really cancel an order after putting $130 down?

I've got it preordered through BBTS and I suppose if I had to cancel I would just buy and sell rather than lose the $130.
