Re: 1/6: Hot Toys - MMS4?? - Black Panther - New Black Panther Figure

We are living in what will go down as the golden age of comic book movies. This is what we have always dreamed about as kids. The sheer endless amount of high quality action figures to choose from our favorite comics of all time. I feel so very fortunate to be living at this time in history. Like everything in life, it will end. And, yes, they may remake the movies all over again but they will never be the same. Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Margot Robbie, Scarlett Johansson, etc... will go down as the originals and probably definitive portrayals in history. It is an embarrassment of riches for all of us geeks and it’s now the time to pony up the money son. I know this, you know this, and Hot Toys knows this. It’s no time to be cheap. Come 30 years from now, you will regret not buying this figure from the first Black Panther movie ever made with Chadwick Boseman’s likeness. That’s how I decide. It’s that simple. So make it happ’n Capt’n! Let it rain, beatches!!!! We are living in a geek’s paradise and it’s freakin Christmas every month up in dis mofo!!!

That's how I feel. It's unprecedented and no matter what happens in the future, for me in particular Marvel has just been so great with the casting, the comic-loving directors, the costume designers. I look at the comics and think how well the they'e been interpreted on screen. So I've got multiple Caps and Bucky and SW and Falcon and BW. I fill in as I can. For me it's collecting from an *unexpected* Golden Age of film history. Things will change - Hemsworth was in the press talking about his contract being done for now. But one day I'll be binge-watching an MCU film collection surrounded be some excellent collectibles in my cave - well, that's already kinda true - and my figs may or may not be worth anything on the secondary market. But they make me happy and HT has done some great stuff that at least is within reach, price-wise.

Re: 1/6: Hot Toys - MMS4?? - Black Panther - New Black Panther Figure

So are we looking at the possibility of a Killmonger figure? I haven't been keeping up.

Re: 1/6: Hot Toys - MMS4?? - Black Panther - New Black Panther Figure

I need that Kilmonger. I have a feeling he’s gonna go up for pre order.

Re: 1/6: Hot Toys - MMS4?? - Black Panther - New Black Panther Figure

I have the CW BP, and while I still like the overall suit design of it, this new suit looks undeniably great. This upcoming looks to be a better figure overall as well; it looks, good, it looks updated, I feel it may be a next step up for HT, I wonder how the HT figures will be 5~10 years from now.

Re: 1/6: Hot Toys - MMS4?? - Black Panther - New Black Panther Figure

the stand and lights looks awesome, but should not be battery powered. Figure is off the hook and i am glad I waited for this one instead of getting the barebones CW version

CW BP was barebones, but, to be fair, what else should it have come with? Okay, yes, I know they could have included the unmasked sculpt, but going off the movie he didn't really have any other accessories.

Re: 1/6: Hot Toys - MMS4?? - Black Panther - New Black Panther Figure

Non diecast figures will be priced at around $450, while diecast figures will be at around $650...

Thanks a lot inflation. Not only are you tanking the stock market, you're now affecting HT prices! :lol

Re: 1/6: Hot Toys - MMS4?? - Black Panther - New Black Panther Figure

Ill be long gone from HT collecting by that time. I already limit myself to 3 a year now.

Re: 1/6: Hot Toys - MMS4?? - Black Panther - New Black Panther Figure

If someone told me 10 years ago i would be paying $350 for 1/6 scale IM figure i would have seriously thought they were insane. My 1st IM figure in 2012 was $189 so i would not be suprised in 10 years at even crazier prices

Price going to ridiculous in 10 years. Hopefully I’ll be out of the game by then. Then again...I keep telling myself that. Lol.

Re: 1/6: Hot Toys - MMS4?? - Black Panther - New Black Panther Figure

I'm looking forward to the movie too, but that thread in the movies section is gonna go down same as the Wonder Woman thread where nobody talks about the movie itself and instead derail it into a bunch of SJW nonsense that no one with a brain in their head cares about.

Never ever go to the movie threads

I mean, I’ve had a few decent laughs from the conversations down there. It can be funny at first. But when it’s the same people posting the same stuff every day, it gets real tiresome.

Re: 1/6: Hot Toys - MMS4?? - Black Panther - New Black Panther Figure

A better look at the LED towers... The LED's themselves are purple. So i'm guessing the "reflective paint" will reflect whatever color it is under.

Doesn't bother me in the least, though. I kinda expected that as I wouldn't know how they would make reflective paint that only reflects one color without it being noticeable when the lights aren't on it. At this point i'm just glad they gave the purple glow a shot instead of ignoring it completely.

I am very interested in the science here. If it's a real, UV emitting blacklight that is below 400nm in wavelength then you're putting damaging light straight onto your figure and in your cabinets. Blacklights work because the wavelength of light excites pigments on a molecular level which leads to the glow - but while cool it's also UV light, which we all know is bad. I want to hope, and like to hope that the lights are truly as you say, purple only.

For this to safely work, and answer your question, we have to apply properties of pigments and lights. The color you observe is the certain collection of light wavelengths that are reflected by a surface whereas all other wavelengths are absorbed. So - ideally, whatever material or pigment that the glowing section is painted with will absorb all colors except for purple. This isn't glow in the dark pigmentation, so we're not worrying about emitting the absorbed energy from the lights over time, its fluorescence - it disappears when it is no longer excited.

Based on that, the announcement never explicitly says it's a blacklight. It just says "specialized LED". So if the light that is emitted specifically excites the pigment they use for the patterns, but remains in the visible light range, then it's technically "safe".

I’m really looking forward to BP, but all that bs going on down there is a real buzz kill.

I think the issue is that the movie has slowly begun to be marketed (not at the fault of Disney, mind you - all external including audiences and those working on the film) as this world changing, politically driven, anti-whatever group you want to pick to be offended this week propaganda film, and people are automatically filing in to bash it without any regard for the film itself, specifically in the US. It's remarkable just how different international reviews for the film are; they review it as a film, not some pseudo political agenda piece. I am really looking forward to this movie because it's another movie in a longstanding line of good installments in the Marvel universe that has a completely unique and unexplored portion of the franchise - let that speak for an embodied and unique character, cast, and crew and let it form its own mark. As is the movie has been spoken for, and that's unfortunate - and the movie section seems to have fallen into that camp.

Re: 1/6: Hot Toys - MMS4?? - Black Panther - New Black Panther Figure

In case people here think that "special" led light feature is worth any kind of extra addition to the price...

So yeah, this new BP figure shouldn't cost more than the CW one, which was overpriced already.

Re: 1/6: Hot Toys - MMS4?? - Black Panther - New Black Panther Figure

Yeah that’s totally the same level of detail...lmao

While there of course are some who can become very self righteous about various issues, and I completely I understand the frustration with this, I would guess that those in the world suffering from injustice have a reason to care about such things. If you don't want to derail threads about action figures with such topics please refrain from calling people stupid for caring more about social issues than movies or even our collections. Your political jab at others in this thread while complaining about how movie and collecting threads can become "derailed" with concerns over the politics of social issues is sad and ironic. If you don't want to be bothered with such things while talking about a movie or a toy (which is in itself a privilege not to have to be "bothered" by issues of injustice that might interfere with what entertains us), then keep your view of how "brainless" you think it is to "care" about such things to your self. Again, I am not saying there isn't any tiresome self righteousness involved in many of what you call "SJW", and I respect the rules of this thread to keep free of such topics, but check your self man, and do your part to keep such things out of the thread if you don't want it here. You don't get to call other groups of people with different social or political views stupid in an action figure forum and then complain that such threads are derailed by talk of social/political issues.

Now let us return to talking about our toys please.

lol yea, not only is the detail on the "glowing" paint far more intricate, I imagine there is also extra cost to make the themed stand accessory with the LED lights.

:goodpost:

On the figure, I’d been waiting to see him before I made any decisions, and I think I’m with the couple or so people who still prefer the CW mask, even though this one’s a big improvement over some of those early appearances on magazine covers with the big ol white eyes; part of me wishes I’d grabbed the CW one while he was easily available. That purple light setup is neat but I can’t picture using it more than a couple of times to show visitors and snap a couple pictures. I’m looking forward to IW showing some better closeups of BP so we can see if anything substantial has changed, since he looks pretty similar.

LEDs emit a miniscule amount of UV light, and HT has historically used LED lighting in their figures. This looks like just a purple (so-called blacklight) LED
