Yeah I would say the Deluxe as well. Don’t know the price difference but it’s probably ridiculous given the one extra item. Having said that it does look really nice and one of the canisters comes out. It just worries me how much of it is cardboard and how much is plastic.
I honestly don't have much interest in the plutonium case, but the deluxe was only an extra $20 so it seemed kinda crazy not to get it.

That’s so weird to me that they would make it from cardboard. They rarely use cardboard for accessories. Not sure why they would cheap out on the case. Especially because it shouldn’t be that hard to mould.

It says “Plutonium case is composed of high-quality cardboard and plastic parts” but it’s not clear which parts are which material. I’m hoping it’s just the insert that the canisters slot into but knowing HT …
Not sure if I would be able to tell the difference between high quality cardboard and the other stuff they use to put breakfast cereals in.

Yeah very odd choice you can see the cardboard in the proto, why they don't use plastic I don't know.

Possibly, I suppose if they were really eco friendly they would get out of the toy making business and go into the tree planting business?

Im not too bothered about the Plu case being made out of card anyway. The Plu box is just gonna sit in my detolf next to the fig, its not like I'm 4 years old and gonna take it in the bath with me. :lol

As long as this fig does not contain the dreaded pleather material. That is one of the major reasons I wont buy a figure now, if I believe it has pleather. Too many of my figs have crumbled due to that stuff.

You've been around a long time. You know why they don't.

A mold for something that size is going to be expensive. Think about it in terms of headsculpts. That plutonium case is bigger than a headsculpt, so the corresponding mold would be at least twice the size of a headsculpt mold. Would you pay 2x the value of a headsculpt, for a plutonium case? Probably not. So why not make it out of an alternate material that's going to be more cost-effective?

Hang on, I’m no expert, but it’s a box, not a solid object, so it’s just a series of flat panels isn’t it? They make plastic box accessories all the time? The case that holds the scepter with the Cap figure is really nice looking and all plastic and surface area is probably similar.

How much of that Captain America figure is new? It is my understanding that none of the molds on that figure are new, the headsculpt is re-used, and presumably the hands and boots are all re-used. So, if the only new tooling on that figure is the box, then it's reasonable to assume that it wouldn't increase the price by any significant amount.

The Doc Brown figure has a ton of molded parts. All the tools in his belt, the remote control, even if the box panels are made of cardboard, the hinges and those others parts on the case are all likely made of plastic, the plutonium canisters ... all those little parts add up.

That's the issue, when you're already paying for molds on a bunch of little parts, a bunch of little parts that can fit in a 8-inch mold (pulling numbers out of my ass), then you add in a box that fits in a 10-inch mold, now all of a sudden you've more than doubled the cost of your tooling. That's why the box isn't plastic.

So I’m paying £20 more for a cardboard accessory because HT doesn’t want to use any of that extra cost they’re charging to actually make the box properly- and that’s fair game because HT should be allowed to cut costs? No paint, no sculpted details- just thick paper… great.
At least they’re justified in wanting to save on tooling since they’re definitely not reusing a 5 year old sculpt and still pricing the figure like it’s all brand new, right?

This is why people are so happy to have InArt enter the game. HT need the fear of losing business to make the most minimal of effort.

Purely speculation that the production version is cardboard until it's in someones hands and confirmed.

Would I be surprised to see HT cut even more costs and increase prices? no. I'll be quite annoyed actually in this case, but it still remains to be seen whether or not it's useless cardboard or not.

The John Wick "box" wasn't cardboard. Neither was the utterly pointless solid cube they bundled with Wonder Woman (JL). So this would be a step down (unsurprising as it may be).

It's not speculation, the product specifications from Hot Toys states that it's made of cardboard, so that's as 'confirmed' as it's going to get.

I know when everyone reads 'cardboard' they think "shipping box" and their brain goes to some cheap, flimsy, easily dented box, but there are so many options when it comes to a 'paper box'. I think back to the DX06 Jack Sparrow base, which was 'cardboard' but it was still dense and durable. Functionally, it wouldn't have made any difference if it was plastic. I'm sure there's been a bunch of other thick paper stock they've used for backdrops, which is probably going to be similar end result.

I actually don't think the case looks that bad in the promo pics. There's only a couple areas that stand out as being cardboard, so if it comes out looking the same I won't be too upset. And I was likely going to have it sitting towards the back of my display anyway.

All I was saying is that it’s weird for it to not be a moulded accessory. I can’t think of many accessories that are cardboard. I have a couple paper accessories but they make sense being paper (money, the Save the Clock Tower flyer, etc.).
