He looks brilliant, Dave. It might help to mess his hair up a bit to add more drama.
You’ve met the wife then. When her hair is messed up, we get all sorts of drama. He looks brilliant, Dave. It might help to mess his hair up a bit to add more drama.
Wow thats some serious improvement.Alright here's my Doc after taking my best shot at rooting the hair. It took me awhile to dial in how big to make it, since it seems to vary from shot to shot, but I'm pretty happy with how it's looking. And I used pastel to make the hair a bit more grayish brown near the base, since it didn't look quite right being a pure white.
Pretty happy with how it turned out in the end, and glad I decided to take a risk on the rooted versus sculpted hair. In fact this might just be my favorite custom yet now.
(and sorry I don't do commission work, as I just have way too many other projects I still need to get to)

Me too. Time for some peer pressureWow thats some serious improvement.
Looks equally good on part 2 Doc.
I would pay some big bucks for a sculpt done as good as yours.
Yeah tbh Im just happy to see a Doc sculpt without that open mouth expression, looks like the Doc is catching flies.Me too. Time for some peer pressure

That is just phenomenal work, DaveJames! You and Dean have demolished the stock sculptAlright here's my Doc after taking my best shot at rooting the hair. Yeah I was originally planning to root the HT head for my Part 2 Doc, but seeing the comparison I just don't think it's going to improve things much. So I'll be waiting to see what Dean comes up with for Part 2 instead.Wow thats some serious improvement.

Did Dean ever confirm if he's doing a Part 2 look? Asking so I won't have to buy 2 extra bald sculpts hahaYeah I was originally planning to root the HT head for my Part 2 Doc, but seeing the comparison I just don't think it's going to improve things much. There was nothing to dremel. The bald sculpt was painted first, and then I glued on the hair.Did you Dremmel the bald sculpt down for the hair, Dave? Or just tac the hair straight on?
Not sure if it's confirmed, but it does sound like something he wants to do. I'm guessing it won't be for awhile though.Did Dean ever confirm if he's doing a Part 2 look? Asking so I won't have to buy 2 extra bald sculpts haha
Amazing work on the sculpt too man, absolutely beautiful.
Ah, okay. I've seen people dremel them lower than the scalp to build volume, especially at the fringe. There was nothing to dremel. The bald sculpt was painted first, and then I glued on the hair.
Yeah thats what I thought, how long has it taken a couple of customizers to produce a sculpt, paint work, rooted hair etc to completely blow HT out of the water. Maybe a couple of weeks and HT had 7 years!Bravo. Hot Toys should be ashamed. Makes me really want to give rooting a go myself but I’m still no lazier than I was yesterday so shouldn’t make that kind of commitment. Would still be nice to give Eleven a go if he’s willing.
Ah. I suppose I can see that for a figure like WW with her thick dark hair, but Doc's was thin and white so I needed to see more of the scalp underneath. Of course this is only my third time rooting a figure (after Anderson and the Bride), so there's probably lots of different techniques out there I could still learn.Ah, okay. I've seen people dremel them lower than the scalp to build volume, especially at the fringe.
Yeah, but Hot Toys is also working on far more projects at one time. Most customizers focus on a few things at a time at most.Yeah thats what I thought, how long has it taken a couple of customizers to produce a sculpt, paint work, rooted hair etc to completely blow HT out of the water. And Hot Toys is a big company with massive resources, official reference material, years and years to prepare and has access to a wide catalogue of sculptors, yet they chose to do nothing but give fans a third rate reuse sculpt and still charge us as if it were b and new and then charge $30 for a ‘deluxe’ cardboard box.Yeah, but Hot Toys is also working on far more projects at one time. Not trying to completely excuse Hot Toys and they could have updated the sculpt but it’s not the best comparison anc again the sculpt we got is as advertised so people acting like they were expecting something else were setting themselves up for disappointment.
I’m simply saying that praising customizers who work on a smaller number of projects isn’t even close to a fair comparison. If someone is only working on one thing (and in this case not even a full figure but a sculpt only) then yeah it better be damn good. And Hot Toys is a big company with massive resources, official reference material, years and years to prepare and has access to a wide catalogue of sculptors, yet they chose to do nothing but give fans a third rate reuse sculpt and still charge us as if it were b and new and then charge $30 for a ‘deluxe’ cardboard box.
Yes, they advertised Doc with the old sculpt but that was also offensively lazy. Of course people would still buy just for the BTTF outfit and because it’s Doc but the fact that HT chose to show that they don’t care from the announcement date still doesn’t make it alright.
Don’t excuse any aspect of this insulting practice.
