Sideshow Indy prototype at Comic Con years ago. Wonder if Silentsurfer did the paint. This was before I was into 1/6 but jeez people who PO'ed based on the pics must have been p^ssed when the actual fig arrived. Look at the paint on that hat compared to production piece.

I have a hard time believing that anyone finds this even remotely acceptable. It passes as Indy, but very little Ford reflected in the portrait. The picture of the prototype sculpt for this looked great, but so did the digital sculpt by WGP. Once seen in 3d they seem to lose a lot. The only paintjob that ever made the SS head look decent was the Les Walker one, and even then it was only from a few angles that it really shined. It seems like he overpainted the eyes, making the eyeballs appear slightly bigger than they were sculpted. As long as we keep complaining about the lack of the ultimate Indy, sculptors who want a leg up will keep trying to get it right.

:lol

We'll get our Indy one day. I feel it.

I know Rocco did a sculpt a few months back didn't seem like a lot of interest honestly. I still wanted to see it painted though. Wonder if anyone bought one.

If you go back through this thread you'll see plently of amazing repaints proving the awesomnes of sideshows head, like the one above or Daren Carnall's which is among my favourites:

The problem is, they cast it in some crappy, sticky, shining plastic, so WGP it is for me.

Mine's been repainted since it was released and I've never had the shininess issue. Only thing I did was soak it overnight in rubbing alcohol to take as much sealer and paint off before I painted it.

I talked to Ski and he says he's never had a problem with them. He's painted several of them.

As have I and haven't heard of the issue until recently on the boards from others. Not sure what I do different, paint brand, sealer, alcohol bath etc.,but have never had the problem.

This looks great! I would straighten that hat a little though - he's got a bit of "Hungry Like the Wolf" going there.

Yup, same. The WGP one was a real eye opener.

:rotfl "Air Ford One." I'm sure the movie studio would have liked to have called it that when it came out.

I don't get it - why are you hatin' all the time?

Lol. Its been adjusted since I took that pic! Thanks for the compliment though! :)

There's no denying that's a really nice paint job. However, you'll never bring Ford out in a sculpt that never looked like him in the first place. It's always reminded me of a Gerry Anderson puppet from the Joe 90/Captain Scarlet era.

The first time I repainted my SSC head, I didn't strip the original paint and the paint I did didn't come out shiny. It did when I stripped that and took away the factory paint when I did so though.

I sometimes think that Trev's sculpt gets an unfair ride because it's Sideshow and everyone's opinion is that they'll never be as good as HT.

No offence to your lovely work mate, but I just don't think Ford exists in that sculpt?

Actually, I completely agree with this. Although a "Team America" puppet comes to mind as well. :lol

IDM? I'm not sure giving the HT sculpt a base layer of matte flesh tone helped either? the one good thing that the HT sculpt had going for it was the translucent skin material.

I tried to bring that out when I did my mods and repaint, you can just about get a bit of Ford here and there but not too much really. :(

Very old pics of my two...but I think you can see that one of the only real plus points of working with the HT sculpt is using the skin texture?

No offense taken Rorywan.

It's a private commissioned repaint and the client didn't want a sunbathed drenched in gloss look.

I agree the sculpt isn't spot on, but that's why we do customs that match what we would like to see.
