Still Love this figure. Not the best Hot Toys release, but with enough TLC and this guy can really pop on the shelf!

Cool!

You could use the hatted head for a German Indy. If you pry the hat off you could then put a cloth cap from say DML or DID over what's left. Stuff it with foam for shape and tack it to the head and there you have it.

I have a DML cap and tried it on mine and it looked quite good.

Thanks to thedarkknight, I have a hatted SS head on the way that I am planning to repaint. Not sure exactly where I'll go with it from there. I have an old Indy bash with the Lonnie Hale head and Relic Hunter gear that is in dire need of an upgrade. I've got enough spare gear lying around to do pretty much anything, perhaps I'll go the ToD route with it, though that will require a muscle body.

Anyway, still not sure, but reading back through the thread I saw mention of the SS head "sweating" through paintjobs and that has me a little concerned. Can anyone elaborate on this phenomena and how to combat it?

I believe someone said to soak it in rubbing alcohol. From what I could gather it was something in the vinyl making paint dry shiny no matter what you did with it. I had encountered it previously, but not so much now. I've stripped mine so much it's a wonder it doesn't dissolve!

What I'd do is just repaint it without stripping the factory paint and prime it first. Vallejo do a really nice primer. Prying the hat off is also a good idea as it gives you better access to the face. Do so from the back of the head and be firm but careful. It will budge eventually but patience and perseverance is the key.

Thanks Rogerbee. Yeah, I was planning on removing the hat before repainting and trying the Lonie Hale hat instead of the SSC hat. I remember someone posting a shot of that combo in this thread and thinking it looked pretty good. Might work better if I go the ToD route, which I am seriously considering at this point.

Interesting, I was always concerned that the Lonnie hat would be too small. When the SSC hat is off the head it looks off, but, when I put it back on, somehow it looks better, well, to me anyway. If I had more than one I'd mod it, but I don't.

Lonnie's hat looks much better than the Sideshow hat. I stripped the head by mopping it with acetone, I didn't let it soak in it. I used a paintbrush to get into the tight spots. After removing all the paint, I washed it with soap and water and let it air dry. Never got shiney after the repaint.

Ohhh, that's right, I forgot you'd used one for yours, yeah it does look better, I suppose Lonnie is still trading, he doesn't look to have updated his website for many years.

I might bear one in mind if I can get one....

There you go, thanks for reposting pjstan! I knew I saw it somewhere but couldn't find it last night. It looks even better than I remembered too.

And thanks for the tips on stripping/painting. I've used acetone to strip figure's heads in the past (Hasbro figures) and it's nasty stuff but gets the job done. Gotta be careful though. Glad to hear it works well on the Indy head.

(Think the acetone kinda answers this)
Got a question- I painted an Indiana Jones head, with the same paint I use on 1:18th GI Joe and Star Wars figures, (It's Citadel brand: water based.) and this time the head turned tacky- sticky. I've never run into this before. Any tips to avoid this happening, or do you know why this would happened?
Thanks for your time,
John

Probably painted over the existing paint John ? Need to strip it with acetone first... then wash thoroughly with a mild soapy water.. when dry then paint a base coat.. I usually then seal that with dull coat then proceed... seal again once final layers applied..
