Frankly I'd rather Present add another charcter to the roster than do HardyMax for the third time. The kids need their Humongous!

This is a funny release whoever got their hands on a Gesus sculpt probably has ties with recasters. I got one and it was limited and expensive so I would think only a few got one. That said I'll see how he looks when they release it and either buy spare parts or just leave it.

More seamless arms. Good to see this is quickly becomig a standard addition.

Looks great in he proto stage. More supposed 'genuine leather' from Present Toys so hopefully they'll be getting more competant with that and will be able to produce less thick and rigid clothing by the time this comes out.
Not a license I'm bothered about but it's still fun to look at.

Outfit is off it's missing some details mainly the stitching in the sleeve cuffs, and the groin. But besides that not to bad I actually like seeing how Gesus sculpt looks painted but we know it's either going to drop in quality or be decent enough. I will probably buy the bolt cutters and vest but if anything I'll preorder in hopes it comes out good otherwise my full custom is fine.

Not sure if I need as I have two VTS' and one Art Figures. I like the sculpt on the Present, but I have no faith the figure will look any good due to their dodgy track record.

I actually prefer Art Figures' non-pleather, worn out look (with a VTS sculpt).

I'm wondering the same. In some cases, with older issue figures such as the forthcoming Dark Toys Max which is essentially the Cult King figure, where are the recasters getting the figure from? It was released quite a few years back and fairly hard to come by now. The Scott Pettersen Max is extremely rare indeed.

This has been going on for years, and is so prevalent that some claim that the original sculptors are in on it.

However, I'm sure there are people in the factories making extras when they receive the original, either for themselves or to distribute to companies for recasting.

That is most likely the case for mass produced figure recasts, like Hot Toys head sculpts or the Dark Toys Deckard head not so long ago, but aren't those extremely limited artist head sculpts usually 3d printed at the artists homes...?
Those often have super small runs of like only 20 or 30 pieces being made, sometimes even less. I really don't think those are being produced at big factories, so that people there would get the chance to make extras...

If they're printing small runs at home then it makes it more mysterious how they end up getting recast. The people getting onto those runs may have ulterior motives for buying the sculpts.

As for "big factories", from photos they actually often look like small operations. When third party producers show progress during production it looks a bit ad hoc, which would've made it easier during the Covid lockdowns when they had to vacate certain areas and set up elsewhere.

I have wondered with the smaller runs how the sculpts end up in the hands of recasters. I had even wondered if some paint studios are quiety making copies. It's such a shame as it creates distrust in the custom collecting community

Conflicted. First 'cause it's Present Toys and they are scumbags recasters. Then because I already own the VTS version, which has great accessory and the best non-custom Hardy-Max sculpt. But then again it has foam bricks padding on its legs. Present Toys went for the Gesus sculpt, but they should have gone with the Modern Life one, easily the best, at least to my eyes.

recasters can purchase genuine head from artist or from someone who has them and recast them without permission. even if each sculpt are numbered they can erase it before recasting. unless it is a 1 of 1 item you wont know who sold your sculpt out. $1k sculpt isnt much consider how much they make from recasting and still cheaper and more efficient than hiring a sculptor.

i doubt the original artist is on this, yes they can milk their work to general consumers after those generous enough to spend on the original bought theirs but this would reduce their value for their future works as people paying big money for the originals would eventually wait out for the 90% similar but also 90% cheaper recasts.

unless the artist gone broke or couldnt sculpt anymore would they consider doing recast.

Yes, it would seem counter-intuitive for an artist to do that. Plus, I recall hearing of many artists being (quite justifiably) upset when they hear of their sculpts being copied.
