LIke I said, Trevor's work is second to none. Zkulper's scult is awsome, but I guess im just a Trevor devotee. Plus Trevor has variants from all 3 movies.

Trevor explained why he didn't end up going with the surprised/dumbfounded expression. He felt it took away from the likeness overall.

Well from where im sitting, giving him a bizarre smile that barely if ever happened in the trilogy (especially when the character went through all 6 hours of it with basically the same expression on his face) doesn't exactly do wonders for it either.

Thats why im simply asking if he will consider making a variant and let the customers decide. Il even pay for it before he starts sculpting.

Marty was a sculpt that I spent a very long time on...which is to say I really struggled with it. I tried all kinds of different expressions and never found anything that felt like MJF (and I'm sorry that I never quite pulled it off for you, Shadow. Truly, we all want our works to be embraced, but I do accept that I can't please everyone.)

it's not to say those great expressions aren't possible, but I don't think that I can pull it off.

I may try sculpting Marty again some day in a different size for my own enjoyment, but for now, these are the ones I'm offering. I know it's frustrating when you don't like something, or see where it should be improved to reach a higher standard...but I have to accept that I'm going to disappoint some people...it's inevitable. It's healthier for me to move forward as opposed to continually noodling with something I know I'm not good enough to capture at this time.

Thanks!
Trev

Trevor stated his reasons for his choice, and he's the artist doing that for his own reasons. I'm sure he knows that he could sell more sculpts with different expressions if he chose to, but that doesn't seem to be his MO. Personally, my preference is to let the artist create their art unless advice is solicited.

The smiling expression is fun, and for me, reflects the fun of the film. ZCulptor and others have different Marty sculpts with different expressions if that's your preference.

--edit: Trevor's post really makes mine moot :lol I'm glad you have that perspective on your work. I can imagine it being frustrating and a bit of a chore if you felt you had to try to appease everyone in the peanut gallery here :D

Exactly. I think Trevor sculpts what he loves, with little thought of popularity or potential value, and is gracious enough to share his work with us fans. Compare the price of his casts to pretty much any other sculptor on this forum and that much is clear.

And I for one applaud him for it. There's way too much art by committee around here as it is. I don't why so many of the artists put up with it.

Seems like Rainman finally had enough in the Willy Wonka thread, and said he won't show the sculpt again until it's done (hopefully, it will be "take it or leave it" when he does).

I see both sides there, in that the expression definitely doesn't scream "Marty" to me. However, it is, without a doubt, a miniaturized (even more than usual) MJF.

But if the sculptor is saying he wasn't able to truly find Marty, or even MJF with a different expression, well, that's that. Even if we might have preferred a different expression (I'm speaking for no one here, more of an italicized "if"), the fact that we've got an almost alarmingly realistic sculpt is something to be incredibly happy for.

And the fact that we've got two fantastic MJF sculpts to choose from right now is pretty fantastic.

Also $35 for a Trevor Grove sculpt!

That just tells you so much about this man imo.

I am guilty of buying very expensive sculpts and don't regret it at all. I also don't begrudge an artist charging it if he has spent so many man hours creating it.

But to charge $35 for a sculpt that could quite easily be sold for a lot more says alot for Trevor!

I see your point, but you also have to take into account some of us have to pay a caster, ideally it would be great to lower prices, but sometimes it is hard when one has to pay someone else to cast, that being said, $35 for Trevor's work is an amazing deal!

I don't think he's comparing sculptors and pricing, there was someone earlier complaining about the sculpt suggesting changes and he was saying that what they were getting really was a great deal for the quality they were getting so they shouldn't complain.

Oh, I see that, I am just talking in behalf of other that just cannot l were their prices due to paying someone else. To be honest at that price , you are getting an amazing deal, Trevor's work is some of THE best in the world, better than a lot of what many of us do...trust me, this is a great deal.:)

Love it!

You should make it removable with the Van Halen cassette inside :)
