So what are your thoughts on the clock Brinn??

Mine doesn't WORK! :slap Ah well...... :lol

I was thinking of making a panel to place over the clock display to cover it up, like in this pic:

But in the movies he has a little arm/tool thingy in there. Hmmmmm......

Actually, I'm trying REAL hard not to crack open the head to add some lights. :monkey3

Brinn, :horror I love your C3PO!!
Tell me how/ what you done.

THANKS! :)

Oh boy. Well, I did this back in '96/'97 so I'll do my best.....

He started out looking like this:
C3P0.jpg

I took 3P0 and cropped a half inch off the neck and lower torso since he's a tad bit too tall. I stripped the gold layer off the right knee, foot and shin with Acetone, leaving them chrome. Weathered him to give him an ANH look, but not ANH Tatooine. Popped out the eyes and cast them in clear plastic. Added yellow lights in the head behind the eyes and an on/off switch. Added Cotswold joints to the neck so I could pose or pop off the head. Cut the arms from the shoulders and inserted more Cotswold GI Joe joints in them so I could pop off his arms and pose them. Cut the wrists from the forearms and added the same joints to those as well. Threw a C-3P0 pen soundboard into the chest so he can talk when you push one of 4 buttons. Added articulation to the waist, I think? :lol My memory of it is fading!

He's (im)patiently waiting for SS to replace him! :monkey3

Brinn, I am glad to have this opportunity to see your custom 3PO in this thread. :hi5: It has not cross my mind of cutting or make custom to this gold plated droid, but I know how to do it now. Thanks to you :clap

NO PROBLEM my friend! :)

Way to hijack a thread!
just kidding that C-3po is awesome. I am going to do a similar one for my Jabba display. I have already purchased the green glob paint to smear on 3po's chest.

thanks again!

THANK YOU! :wave

Didn't want to derail, but wanted a 3P0 in there for scale and stuff. Glad you like him and good luck! Once you get him apart you'll get that warm, fuzzy ESB/Chewie feeling! :lol

The one thing I WAS going to do, but haven't yet, and possibly never will, was I was going to switch out the legs for the 'ESB Break apart 3P0' from the Hasbro Book/Figure combo called "Tales of the Golden Droid", so I could pull him fully apart to strap to Chewie's back.

The legs could be pulled from the pelvis, and also detach from the knees.

Combined with my altered removable head, arms and hands the final piece could have been fully disassembled. Ah well. I'm too lazy now and want Sideshow's to do all that!

Thanks Chouzi for the 'Take Apart 3P0' pics, hope you don't mind me using them.

If anyone is interested, I will sell my brand new, sealed one for $39 shipped. PM me.

Just got myself a second R2 & Darth Vader's clock from Hong Kong last week. :clap

An awesome piece also. :lol

Size comparsion. Will find some time to repaint the second R2.

Are any of the other Taito R2-D2s the same size? They have computer cleaner (vacuum), a thermos, speakers, hot pot, etc.

Sean

Yes SpaceCrawler, the new Hot Pod R2 or Thermos (stated in the ebay) is 1/6 scale also.

I saw alot of hot pod R2 in HK last week. At first I thought it's body is wider, but I learnt from our HK friend's website that these two R2s are in same size & height (18cm).

:lecture And do take note that Hot pod R2 do not have the centre leg, no open compartments. It's a fix posed figure to hold a cup.

Here's some pictures from aryet-collections

Clock-left, Thermos-right (noticed the red dot near centre bottom )

Yeah, the clock is the best, since its 'kind of' a clock, but mainly an action figure; with the middle leg, sensorscope, fire extinguisher, extending head. You want one! :)

Till SS makes theirs. ;)

I really don't think you can go wrong with $40 shipped. This is the best 1/6 scale R2D2 ever made.

I painted the spot under his eye red and the projector holes black, it makes a big difference IMO. Otherwise he looks a bit monochrome to me.
