This figure is looking mighty impressive....and I'm enjoying Josh's fine photos of him...

....but the more shots I see of it, I gotta wonder. Is Sideshow basing their figure off of the movie (like a 3D model or something) or whatever Hasbro based their initial action figures on? Not trying to be negative or dampen enthusiasm here, just making observations...

See this comparison of the Hasbro action figures...the one on the right is the initial release, kind of compact and squat in stature and construction.
The figure on the left is the second release...taller, less compact, more like the movie version....

Maybe it's just the way Sideshow has the Proto posed, but it looks more like the first Hasbro figure (in stature and proportion) than the tall, more menacing version.

I wish there had been another figure posed next to him to get a better idea of the true scale here...

Any comments/thoughts from those who actually saw him are welcome...

I didn't see him in person, but you can easily tell he's hunched over in the picture, and his legs are clearly bent. I think he'll be very movie realistic.

JB,

Right now what you see is a not a lot of articulation and mostly glued together piece. So when it has full movement it will stand taller than Vader according to what folks were told. Also the figure itself standing where it was at was pretty good size. Just doesn't quite translate like you said there by himself.

Thank ya! I don't know if he'll come with an elaborate base like Fett or not. Would be cool if he did.

How much do these star wars figures usually cost? Grievous was my favorite villain so Im thinking about getting him.

There ya go. :lol Didn't remember seeing the card to be honest as I was to busy looking at the figure. :lol

i was there both thursday and friday and am certain this pricing was not displayed... happily, Q1 is a lot sooner than i would have imagined!

I'm glad he's 2012.
It is going to be a HARD year on the wallet. Worth it, though - it's interesting the debate in people's heads between OT and PT; because really, it's the same story, it's just about which half of the saga you prefer (or even are ok with). It's all Lucas, it was his brainchild and still is.
Despite what we see as mistakes and - honestly - some truly silly antics, it is apart of the mythos forever, and I am happy that we got to see his vision of the Clone Wars on-screen.

I just wish we could've seen a live-action Grievous at his peak, dueling Mace Windu to a standstill, and taking out Asajj and Durge in a single arena. I will be more than happy to POSE THIS BAD BEAST crushing my Assajj with his foot.:yess:

I'm still very doubtful this guy is going to be released in the first quarter and before Boba. I mean, if they still haven't even figured out the joints yet, how far along can they be in development? I'd rather they push off the release date and get everything squared away before they manufacture and ship, than getting a big floppy marionette that can't hold a pose.

I'm guessing it's going to be delayed. Much simpler figures have been pushed back in the past.

Still, I am so excited to be getting this guy! I hope he's got a good ex!

A short delay is definitely acceptable as they probably won't revisit him for a long time. I just hope the SS exclusive version is a unique base like for the recent clones. I'm terrified it'll be like the premium format figure where the exclusive item is his iconic cape!

Based on prior figures, I'm almost certain this is what is going to happen. If Fett is slated for Q2 I would be shocked quite frankly if we saw Grievous ship before Fett.

A welcome delay. $200 is a good deal, but I'll take all the time they'll give me to keep my life in-order before I drown in toys...:gah:

They can delay this as long as they need to. It's been a delightful shock just to see it this far along and that it is indeed, coming.

There are many options to deal with the limb issue(s)...interchangeable ones, ratchet-style ones...whatever the case, I just hope the material is such that he can be displayed rigidly and without fear of sagging or falling over.

The finish is also crucial...the proto looks amazing in texture and detail...I hope Sideshow takes the time (and gets the samples) to see that this great detailing can make it effectively through production. They've proven they can with each successive clone release (Cody is just astonishing) so...again, if it's a delay to get it right, than a delay it is...

...and finally, and exclusive....for fate's sake, please don't make it his distinctive cape! That is a must for the basic release!! If anything, perhaps a couple of saber hilts-as-trophies that aren't available with other figures could be considered...
