Pretty sure you have it backwards. Prototype Luke was nicer both in sculpt and outfit than production. (Edit: Just double-checked and that pic is definitely the prototype. Pics were never updated to production on Sideshow's site, but the looks of it.) No way production came out better on that one than the prototype. It's one of the few examples of the opposite. That said, I still think it looks better than SSC's Hoth Luke. His face to me looks too doughy and expressionless.

This was one of the earliest pics we saw of him, if not the earliest:

The final production version was distinctly different, and IMHO much better. I doubt you'll find any in-hand pics in the Bespin Luke thread that look like the above.

A possible explanation is that it's just a different paint job. The Obi-Wan sculpt doesn't appear to have changed much, but a different paint job has made it look heaps better.

I think the difference is almost 100% the harsh lighting. Details and colors are all washed out. This is an image of the BD sculpt at the same show SDCC 2011.

Couldn't disagree more. I was initially quite disappointed in how Luke came out in production but in-hand it is still quite a nice figure. Still think it's a downgrade over the prototype pictures, though (as shown in your post #1302).

I never experienced a radical change of opinion between pics and in-hand, and DX Luke made no difference: the BD sculpt is really great, the undamaged one is a very realistic and detailed random human being in a Bespin Luke cosplay.

Lol, that is the production piece and why the Luke thread blew-up (er, unless you're saying you like that picture). This figure photographs pretty badly for some reason but those first pics were truly horrendous. The outfit as well looks like it's made out of burlap, compared with how refined the proto Bespin fatigues were. It's like you've inverted proto and production in your memory.

The difference between pictures of this figure (like those first production ones, above) and in-hand is pretty astounding. I'd say it's only the odd photo where the camera captures how the figure looks in person, but regardless none of them look as good as the prototype. Those pics are what lured me in to 1:6, and as far as I'm concerned, it was a perfect (if idealized) Luke. Production just doesn't come close, IMO, and especially not in those first images that make Luke look like he's coked out. :lol

Has anyone had a waitlist reservation convert for the exclusive version of Commander Luke Skywalker recently? Just wondering what my chances are. Thanks!

Man, you're like a dog with a bone on this. Yeah, that's the proto (and even with unflattering light it looks better than the production), but the photo you posted previously was production (post 1316), and you seemed to indicate that you thought it was the prototype and that it changed for the better, which is not the case (to be honest, I'm not even sure what point you are trying to make, no offense). Anyway, if there's more to say about it, maybe it should be done in the Bespin Luke thread.

Sol, sorry if you thought I was implying that other pic was the prototype, I wasn't. I was just recalling the general panic when that pic emerged just before Luke shipped.

Agreed, it's time to move on!
