"10,000 BC," a widely ridiculed prehistoric action movie boasting a menagerie of exotic beasts, trampled the competition at box offices around the world.

According to studio estimates issued on Sunday, the Warner Bros. Pictures release sold $61 million worth of tickets during its first weekend.

The North American contribution was $35.7 million from 3,410 theaters, an easy No. 1 ahead of fellow rookie "College Road Trip" with $14 million.

Haven't seen it, so can't comment on the quality. But, it certainly did good business.

I found the prehistoric fauna to be the most enthralling aspect. Though it should be warned that the only scenes featuring that beautiful Smilodon are all included in the trailers (it's hardly in the movie at all). Aside from the sabretooth, the the terror bird were, as I anticipated, my favorite part of the movie. The filmmakers truly made them vicious, terrifying, and effective predators. I was immensely pleased with the animals, and although the film seemed an amalgam of several other movies (Stargate, 300, and Conan the Barbarian all come to mind), I enjoyed it for what it was. It started off extremely slowly, and I was fearful and groaning in my seat, finding it hard to believe that I was going to sit through another 2 hours of a movie in which one of the featured characters is essentially an old woman/wind chime made of bones. After that initial confusing foray into the film's mythology, I found it entertaining. As soon as the raiders came to enslave the tribe's people, I was happy. :D Granted, there is a great deal of dialogue verging upon cheddar, but for its uniqueness in plot (*SPOILERS* I enjoyed the twist that this advanced civilization was actually composed of Atlanteans who were trying to rebuild their razed empire by enslaving the native people from near and far in order to reconstruct it *END SPOILERS*) and particularly for the animal life.

However, my biggest disappointment, BY FAR, was that the new TDK trailer purported to be attached to 10,000 BC was NOT featured. I repeat, the trailer for "The Dark Knight" was NOT played before the movie. The new Iron Man trailer was there, yes, but I was anticipating a closer look into Gotham City since we last left it in 2005.

I knew this would be a flop ( called it a few days ago in the Dark Knight thread) from the first trailer I saw. If people were really interested in cavemen, museums would be more popular.

True! I still liked it.
I must be a glutton for punishment!
(And the girl was fine! although, NO Megan Fox! Dave! How could you! :D )

Same here.

They played the TDK trailer before 10000 BC when I saw it. The same trailer that's been all over the internet.

I used to think you were so cool, then you had to say this movie was good and dash all those thoughts. :monkey2

Ahhh, I still think you're cool. Just lie to me and say this movie sucked. Which is only the true truth since it's the same person who gave us the craptastic masterpieces ID4 and The Day After Tomorrow.

They bumped out the new TDK trailer to premiere the new Speed Racer trailer. From the Studio's standpoint it makes a great deal of sense. I don't know anyone who isn't familiar with the upcoming release of TDK, but Speed Racer hasn't been widely publicized. Being that it's a rather expensive film, very CG intsensive, and some are already deeming it this year's Transformers such that it was arguably the first anime to gain widespread popularity in the US, I can understand the need to release the trailer. Still, it doesn't mitigate my disappointment.

Interesting. They played the Speed Racer trailer at the showing I saw also. TDK, Speed Racer and IM all showed their trailers before the showing of 10,0000 BC when I went.

I know I'm a bit late but the only thing that interested me in this movie was seeing "The Dark Knight" trailer for the hundredth time:D

Oh wait...that wasn't part of the movie huh? Oh well.:monkey1

I enjoyed it. Got me out of my cave for the night. Got a laugh out of some of the dialogue. What does a movie have to be to please you guys? I hear 'it was crap' and 'oh, yawn', but nothing intellectual coming out of anyone who criticized its, mouth. Like whatever dudes.

i went and saw it last week.............could have been better, could have been worst........but really you can say that about any movie you see with a few exceptions. depending on the movie some parts are shot so poorly that it ruins the whole film where as a better movie's shat parts are overlooked and you shrug a bit and let it go. would i rate this as oscar material.......NO !!!!.......but with my nephew's movie card both our tickets and free popcorn cost like $6.00........so im not complaining too much. conceptionally a fair story.......some of the acting.......
