Is it terrible that if by some small miracle I did get my hands on this release I'd immediately give it a misting of clear blue?
Yeah... I probably shouldn't even try, even though I do know someone who'd probably be willing to go to the booth.
Clear looks pretty slick, but I worry about the quality of the plastic; clear plastic tends to be more brittle and prone to breakage, in my experience...
Good suggestions - thanks! Well if the person I asked does come through for me I'll give it a shot, it'll be less permanent than the repaint I did on my standard Synthetic Human. (Who is permanently posed on my desk in the pose Deadpool/Ryan Reynolds repopularised.) Otherwise, I won't try too hard to get my hands on this one, it'll be nice if it happens but it won't be the end of the world if it doesn't.
The parts that were murky grey/green are now a cold light wedgeworth blue. I was waiting for the weather to ease up so that I could give the thing a good even coating of clearcoat before weathering/softening the edges/detail work... And then the weather never got better, and I just lost the will to finish him. But I'll probably finish it off come August
Right... Here's a pic - but bear in mind that it's only had the equivalent of a base-coat/thorough degreasing of the ugly grey/green sections and I'm well aware of the issues that need dealing with:
Hah - not so much ballsy as a way for me to work my way through my dissatisfaction with the finish/quality of the thing when it showed up. I knew that if I didn't take it to bits and work on it that it would just end up getting dumped on someone else eventually. It's a little terrible actually, in hand it was exactly as the owner photos showed, and of an appropriate quality - and yet the thing felt unfinished. Especially when directly compared to the two other 1000Toys figures I've got, with one having detailed clothing and a more attractive colour scheme, or in the case of the green Koguti just insane sculpting. But I suppose it makes sense given the standard release really is just a more detailed naked base body.
Thanks, both for the kind words on a currently unfinished custom attempt and the detailed images of the new 1/12 figure... Drat they do look pretty awesome - but no I'm staying away from the 1/12 scale on purpose.
I look forward to seeing the end results when you get round to finishing it. I could see myself doing something similar to a 1/12 if they ever release a third batch. There's something oddly satisfying about stripping collectables down and reworking them, I've started to develop a taste for it after weathering up an SHF Stormtrooper.
I'd really like to get my hands on some of the 1/6 synthetic humans just for use as artist's dummies, I just haven't been able to bring myself to pay what the aftermarket's asking for a $160 figure (yet). I can see where you're coming from with the "unfinished" feeling, I always thought the SDCC test type body looked more impressive with its weathering, asymmetric colour separations and transparent face. Don't think there's any chance of picking one of those up for a sane price anymore, sadly
If this is not a SDCC exclusive, why get it? Can wait until you order online no?
