Is it terrible that if by some small miracle I did get my hands on this release I'd immediately give it a misting of clear blue?

Yeah... I probably shouldn't even try, even though I do know someone who'd probably be willing to go to the booth.

I could actually see them doing different colours down the line, but it's really up to you.

For the unaware, I'm about 90% sure they're referencing the classic Japanese toyline Henshin Cyborg with this release.

Clear looks pretty slick, but I worry about the quality of the plastic; clear plastic tends to be more brittle and prone to breakage, in my experience...

easy way to have it look the color you want it is put a piece of color paper of your choice around the figure. you will get that figure in that color.

though i don't think the body is 100% clear, the torso looks semi clear and the head looks chromed from the side view.

Good suggestions - thanks! Well if the person I asked does come through for me I'll give it a shot, it'll be less permanent than the repaint I did on my standard Synthetic Human. (Who is permanently posed on my desk in the pose Deadpool/Ryan Reynolds repopularised.) Otherwise, I won't try too hard to get my hands on this one, it'll be nice if it happens but it won't be the end of the world if it doesn't.

how did you repainted yours?

The parts that were murky grey/green are now a cold light wedgeworth blue. I was waiting for the weather to ease up so that I could give the thing a good even coating of clearcoat before weathering/softening the edges/detail work... And then the weather never got better, and I just lost the will to finish him. But I'll probably finish it off come August

pic or never happened.

Right... Here's a pic - but bear in mind that it's only had the equivalent of a base-coat/thorough degreasing of the ugly grey/green sections and I'm well aware of the issues that need dealing with:

Pretty ballsy customising such a sought-after figure but the blue does look good.

Got my second batch 1/12 human and CARB yesterday.

The CARB is really nice. Some people claimed it's a satin black, but it's really not. It's some kind of speckled midnight blue finish. Also a nice touch that they went with the transparent red lens and not just red paint like on the prototype.

The second run human, at least mine, seems to be much better-made than the first. Green paint is less desaturated and grey-looking. Joints are tighter and smoother across the board. Lining and weathering is much more subtle.

They changed the wrist joints on the second run. First run had hollow pegs that looked nice and mechanical, this second run version just has a straight plastic peg. Probably the only change not for the better. This picture also shows off the more saturated green the best, I think.

I swear they retooled the face slightly to make it look more like the 1/6 version. First run on the left, second run on the right.

Took a set of callipers to them, second run has a wider forehead than the first.

Length is identical on both.

They seem to have narrowed the eyelids at the edges and changed the profile of the nose ever so slightly, but I couldn't get photos of those measurements.

Hah - not so much ballsy as a way for me to work my way through my dissatisfaction with the finish/quality of the thing when it showed up. I knew that if I didn't take it to bits and work on it that it would just end up getting dumped on someone else eventually. It's a little terrible actually, in hand it was exactly as the owner photos showed, and of an appropriate quality - and yet the thing felt unfinished. Especially when directly compared to the two other 1000Toys figures I've got, with one having detailed clothing and a more attractive colour scheme, or in the case of the green Koguti just insane sculpting. But I suppose it makes sense given the standard release really is just a more detailed naked base body.

Thanks, both for the kind words on a currently unfinished custom attempt and the detailed images of the new 1/12 figure... Drat they do look pretty awesome - but no I'm staying away from the 1/12 scale on purpose.

I look forward to seeing the end results when you get round to finishing it. I could see myself doing something similar to a 1/12 if they ever release a third batch. There's something oddly satisfying about stripping collectables down and reworking them, I've started to develop a taste for it after weathering up an SHF Stormtrooper.

I'd really like to get my hands on some of the 1/6 synthetic humans just for use as artist's dummies, I just haven't been able to bring myself to pay what the aftermarket's asking for a $160 figure (yet). I can see where you're coming from with the "unfinished" feeling, I always thought the SDCC test type body looked more impressive with its weathering, asymmetric colour separations and transparent face. Don't think there's any chance of picking one of those up for a sane price anymore, sadly :(

dapro shared the bootleg 1/6, if you just need an artist dummie, it's not a bad choice actually, well, it's just Bad. :lol

If this is not a SDCC exclusive, why get it? Can wait until you order online no?

you never know, they might not be SDCC exclusive but they might also only see 100 units online...

so if you going to SDCC might as well get it. or if it's just a bus stop away from your town.

Thanks! It'll be really cool to see other people's takes on these guys once more customs start happening. Yeah, I completely agree about the SDCC exclusive, the added details really make the rest of the figure 'pop'! (Though I did see one custom of the original limited SDCC release on google images that made me wince. I suspect it was the person's intention from the content of their gallery, but the additional parts really didn't match the aesthetic of the figure)

Anyone seen the latest SDCC announcement?

Yet another figure, this time a Synthetic Human version of Duke from the GI Joe line. He's got one of their weird trademark half headmasks and looks kinda cool, though I don't think I'm a fan of the arms being half "flesh coloured" yet still robotic in the way that they are, even though it definitely fits the aesthetic.

Looks really cool; the GI Joe line is one of their most interesting ones at the moment.
