Can you elaborate on what you did to the dress? I didn't understand it the first time.

Maul Fan, your pictures are amazing, this one is my favourite. I'm amazed that SS hasnt approached you to take pictures for them, yours are so much better that the official SS ones. If you were to post your pictures before the item was released, it would save the inevitable figure bashing based on a grainy picture from China, not to mention a lot of cancellations!!!!!!!!

They have asked him to make wallpapers which are available on their site and mentioned in the newsletter all the time. But I agree with your point. MaulFans pics have sold this figure to a fangroup who wrote her off as a failure. :rock

Yep, he certainly sold it to me.

I removed the dress and then ironed the folds into the dress -- meaning folded the material and pressed down with a hot iron on sythetic setting, just for a moment, until I got a crease. Did that four or five times along the dress. Put dress back on figure. Bunched the folds together on the beltline then ran a needle and thread through the folds to hold them in place -- I threaded 5 folds, very easy. Water treated the dress with a spray bottle to help shape it the way I liked and let it dry. That's it.

The trickiest part is the ironing. You can remove the dress, which allows for easier ironing -- but getting the dress off takes some doing -- or you can remove the belt, turn the figure on its side and be very careful as you bunch the material and press the iron down to create a fold. Don't touch the figure needless to say. You only really need 3 to 4 folds to get the effect. The stitching afterwards helps you "place" the folds where you like and hold them there.

I wonder if water treatment would get the same effect?

Check out the Medicom Boba Fett product page on Sideshow's site ;) And thanks for the compliments.

It helps alot, but the material dries without taking much shape -- meaning, you can't get hard folds into the material without an iron or some sort of "press". I suppose if you have enough clamps you could do that, but you run the risk of staining the material with rust or something.

I did try the water treatment alone several times... finally gave in and stripped the figure down to experiment with the iron. Obviously it worked better.

Removing the dress isn't such a scary thing. It takes some work, but I did no damage to the dress or material...and once it's off it's much easy to work with. It also allows you to put the dress back on the way you like it, shaping it better as you redress.

HOWEVER, you should decide on your pose before choosing to iron. If Leia will be hunched over, holding her blaster in a battle-ready pose, then there's little reason to do the ironing as the folds along the belt will be hidden from view...and the farther you part the legs for an action stance the more the dress stetches out, undoing any folds along the bottom hemline.

If you're going for a more static, standing pose like I have than the ironed folds really help.

You see, a little ingenuity and imagination and the clothes will look better. Now I plan on going astep further and making an out fit with less stiff material so the folds will have a more pleated look around the waist.

Very well done. Are you able to make the creases any softer? The hard folds almost give her dress a pleated skirt look. It still looks much better than the out-of-box photos regardless.

Well, that's tricky. The material doesn't want to hold a shape like a fold, it's impossible to get a nice round curl. I did try to do that, I even put a wire in the hemline -- but while it tweaked the hem, the rest of the skirt just bubbled out in odd shapes. Nothing created 'folds' other than the iron. And unfortunately, this material only understands a hard crease.

Now if Chewblacca or Maulfan actually make a dress out of a better material, then that would be great.

I agree. Really well done, but the creases are a bit harsh. Love the way it lays on her, it has real weight.

Well it's going to be small steps for me, I'm just going to attempt the collar and hood piece, just to have a hood that can rest on her head like in the film and all. If I succeed, I may try a whole dress.

Has anybody been able to get her in this position?

I did last night, but as a matter of fact, I can take an image of it tonight, I'll use my tripod, it looked good in my room light, but with my usual photo lighting it just looked mehh, and even though some shots I post aren't all that good either, I am pretty particular about what makes the cut for putting on the boards and it wasn't worthy.
