I wonder what picture the sculptor was using when he designed this?

Sculptors have little to do with the final product; they get tasked with an assignment and do it to that extent. Andy, and based on past comments, probably another sculptor or 2, were assigned to produce a Princess Leia in ANH sculpt. I'm certain they have no clue what paint apps are or aren't going to be done on the sculpt, otherwise it probably would have some aspects to the face sculpted for looking out the corners of the eyes more in line with how that looked in the film when she did it for the memorable shot. Sideshow and LFL are ultimately who makes the call on how the painted, tailored production piece will look.

I'll have to eat some crow here and go ahead and say that looking at MaulFan's pic of Leia figure and person side by side shows that SSC got it really, really close. A whole lot closer than I initially thought.

I got mine last night and I think it is fine. The only gripe is that I had to futz around with her gown to make it hang right.

Pics coming soon.

I'm guessing you don't own it, but if her dress was any thinner it'd fall apart in a breeze, it's about the thinnest material I've seen on a 1/6 figure from any manufacturer, especially for primary clothes and not like an undershirt or something.

Just because it's thin does not make the material flowable. You can look through a potato sack, but when you put it on it will never hang right.

I believe what MF is saying is that if they chose a material any thiner it either would have been COMPLETELY off and look even worse or have just not been able to hold up. Anyone that tells you that these figures will look exactly like they do on screen out of the box is lying. I know MF doesn't futz his figures and they look really good but those of us that do futz can often get them 90% screen accurate. It just takes time and effort.

Well I wasn't referring to the quality the clothes lay on the figures, you just had indicated if they went with a lighter material and I was pointing out it couldn't get much lighter than it already is.

I understand what you are saying, but they could of gone with something a little less firm looking, or sewn it so it does flow better. I should be getting mine soon and I will show you what I mean.

I know what you're talking about with shape, and I think you'll find when you get it, the material really isn't even all that firm. All it really needs is a little extra material in the body above the belt because on her it hung over the belt a bit in the films, and more material around the waist for the skirt area with sewing or wires or something to snug it up to her legs and create the folds like you see, right now it has a bit of a bell shape to it. I'm ok with how it looks, the part that bothers me most is the way the collar and shoulders meet and the hood not being wearable.

Me too. I can understand Plo Koon not having a functioning robe since you never see him that way on screen, but the first time we see Leia is with the hood up (in no less iconic a scene as the "Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope" scene!!!).

That, to me, is the most disappointing aspect of this figure. I hope someone figures out a way around that.

I was looking forward to making pictures like that. I'm not attached to ANH Leia, for me the most memorable outfit was her Hoth gear, the hair and clothes just stick with me as her best look, BUT there are ANH moments burnt into my memory, and of course one is that first moment where she throws the hood back to reveal herself with John William's subtle, behold my beauty reveal music, which I know is part of Leia's theme, and I planned to recreate that with the figure but it's just not possible. I imagine they made it small so when you pose her with it down, it doesn't look like she's a hunkback, but to fit on her right, it needs to be about 200% larger than it is.

Well maybe the fact that its detached from the rest of her dress will be a blessing rather than a curse if we want to make one. :dunno

Could be. I may attempt to make my own, sure it won't be same material but that's no big thing. With making your own, you also have the chance to flare the collar a little at the base to cover up the thready dress seam.

What type of material are you thinking of using, Maul?

Maybe cotton, like a thin t-shirt? It's not too thick, but it would probably have some weight to it and hang pretty well. Since the hood and collar are separate from the dress, there's no need to affect the figure's outfit to do this so you can experiment without worries. If that doesn't work well, I'll probably go source something. I'm not a big sewer, so I'm not familiar with materials out there.

I was thinking the same thing. A thin t-shirt may drape better and wont fray like the material Sideshow used. Along with this you can make the sleeves a bit wider, and perhaps you could even gather the skirt in certain places around her waist so it wil not look so flat. Make the side splits and I bet you will have A New Hope Leai that will look a bit more like A New Hope.

Totally! It just simply can't be any thinner or else it would be in some serious trouble of not being worth putting on the figure cause it would just rip. I agree with you on the collar and thats something I will be mentioning when I sit down to review this guy.
