Ya know, I am kinda glad I canceled my Aragorn. It looks like the leather coat is WAY to shiny. It seems more and more we are getting a major difference between Proto and Production. I love SS but this Aragorn really isn't doing it for me. Hopefully they will do an Amon Hen Aragorn next year for SDCC. It would make me much happier as he should have his Elven Cloak and that's what I really want.

Sculpt looks fine. I'm a little worried about the paint apps, but I'll reserve judgment until he arrives in the mail.

Garb, weapons and accessories look stellar.

im still hoping he rocks!!! the costume looks awesome. if he ends up sucking then i really see no other reason to continue with the line.

Same here.

I think the costume looks like it will be very detailed and nicely made but the big decline in the quality of the head sculpt is a major bummer. It might not look so hot even in person.

If I'm disappointed when I get him it looks like I'll make someone else on the wait list happy to get my exclusive Legolas and Boromir and I'll be through with this line. That would suck though because after seeing the protos I was really excited to get them all.

As a new customer to SSC I have to say I'm starting to really get tired of being sold on fantastic looking prototypes and being delivered pieces that look about 50 degrees below that quality.

I think SSC should just produce a certain number of figures and then sell the finished product so you know what you're getting at the time you put the order though.
I doubt they would sell as many figures if they did it that way unless they cared a little more about how the finished product looked.

I think everyone's being way too harsh on Strider. We don't even have him in hand yet! Ignoring the prototype (which was handpainted by an artist who only had to do it once) look at the finished production piece objectively. Imagine you've never seen the proto. Would you pass this up? I sure as hell wouldn't! Sure, the proto raised our expectations astronomically. It looked amazing. But no company can produce that. It is impossible. It's not a flaw in the company or the factory. It's IMPOSSIBLE for everyone to get the prototype.

Maybe what really needs to happen is that they need someone less talented doing the prototype paint.

Once again you guys are freaking out and you don't even have the figure in hand. Haven't you learned your lessons from, Mace, Han, Qui-Gon, Obi, etc.....

These pics never do the actual piece any justice. Wait to make your decision by the one you recieve. If you don't like it, then by all means feel free to rip it to shreads. Just wait til you actually see the figure in person.

But in all seriousness guys.... Weathering will help this figures costume immensely. When I have mine, I will demonstrate... with pics... so that everyone will know how to do it. I'm sure we can get it at least near the proto with some sanding and some minor washes.

And I really want to see if I can bring back the "subtle stubble" and fix the eyes/brows. So expect pics of that as well when I have them!

:chew IT CAN BE DONE!!!:chew

Yeah, and listen to Loki here!! He is 100% right.

preach on! i can't wait for this figure. the ranger cloak looks freaking awesome in the review sideshow posted. must...be...patient.

With all of the delays associated with this figure, I expected more. I just wanted a figure that was close to the prototype. What I got is nothing close. I am going to racking up a huge bill with repaints, or I might just start painting myself. UGG!!! SS are you listening!!! Get a grip on your China manufacturers and QC!!!!!!

Cheers,

Brad

I'm actually very happy with it overall. The paint apps. look very clean in these latest pics. The paint on the face dosen't appear to be too thick, and the beard and hair look much better. My only real disappintment is the loss of intensity in the eyes. And as Customikey said, it should look even better in person, they almost always do. Very much looking forward to this one.

I agree with ya. For the most part it looks to be a pretty solid figure and with some awesome detail to boot. Honestly, other than the coat I don't think it's far off the Proto. I thought at first the sculpt was but after looking at several pics that have been posted. It hasn't changed. I do think folks are going a tad overboard with how bad they are saying this is. Or making it sound like this figure is bad just because they say so.

i think if i do keep him the first thing to do is weather the overcoat a little bit. i dont plan on posing him with the elven cloak so that will probably stay in the box until i get a suitable place for it.

He looks pretty good. Not the best LOTR item I've ever seen but pretty solid over all. The beard doesn't look nearly as dark in those shots. Still don't care for how new the coat looks but it could be worse.

I think of the entire Fellowship Aragorn is by far the hardest to nail in 12 inch form. No one else has stubble, strands of hair often hanging in his face or such weathered gear. An incredibly admirable effort by SS. Its pretty cool to see such a great figure and then realize its probably the *worst* we'll see as far as the likeness and gear is concerned.

i agree to a point with you. the gear IMO is the best SS has produced yet in 1/6 scale. i think with a little dirt, and maybe some roughing up with some sand paper and the jacket will be spot on. the likeness looks great and i think its just the paint application that might be questionable.

Someone said quality over quantity? I'm gonna have to give the "quality" award to Aragorn....

Amazing looking figure.
