That's a fabulous repaint there, and looks so much more like Viggo (or Aragorn?)

I can't wait to see what others do with it. The clothing is much improved too, I cant wait to get mine to work on (hell... I'm still waiting for Obi Wan and Qui Gon, lol... damn being in the UK)

Anyway, whenever I do eyebrows, i don't ever paint them as solid brown lines, even with cross hatching, I do it in about 3 or 4 shades of grey. The first, is very light.. almost the flesh colour. In fact, you could add some flesh into the light grey. Then on top of that the darker grey, slightly thinner eyebrow though.... then darker again... thinner line again. etc

I find this gives that 'thin see through hair' look that real eyebrows have. This forum is great for finding out how other people paint and customise their figures.

Love it here, lol. Excellent custom once again.

(not the best example of what i'm talking about.... but it might give an idea of what i mean)

Excellent tip! I'll definitely give it a try. I love learning new ways to make my toys better.

Hey Mikey, what would you charge to weather Strider's coat? Your's looks damn near perfect.

Every piece you see from me has matte. The problem I'm sensing, and that you illustrated with those amazing pics from our Asian bretheren, is that the work is TOO matte. It needs a slight gloss to make the skin healthier looking. I've picked up a few sprays, including satin and a semi-gloss. Let's see what happens.
i had this one dullcote spray that was called a fixative spray
and for some reason, it left a nice natural gloss, that wasn't too plastic lookin,g, or too matte.
the trick is to barely spray the spray button, so that only a little comes out.
and also, I do it at an angle usually, from above or the sides, so its like the moisture is only in the places that are most "greasy" or "pimple-prone" haha.

Yeah, I actually do that same thing... almost.. I paint the eyebrow very lightly with the color I want, and then I go a few wash layers of skin color over the top of that to get that "see through" look.... It works rather well. No harsh lined eyebrows on my figures either. I'd recommend a similiar technique to anyone who paints figs!!!

Man, I just got my Aragorn today and I am seriously wowed.... He looks fantastic, even without a repaint. I love the costume work and it's much better than most of the pics make him out to look. And I really like the box, some people have said they like the others better, but not me... I really love this box, Hell... even more than the SW ones...

I'll be working on Viggo all weekend, in between painting duties.... So expect pics when I have them! :D

I basiclaly repainted his beard, since Aragorn had a very distinctive beard in the movie. Also re-did his eyebrows since that seemed to be one of the main details that was altering the sculpt of the figure. Viggo Moretensen has very light to almost non-existant eyebrows so that was a trick here. I also changed his eyecolor and added some detail to the blue of his eyes.

Lastly I did an overall "dirt wash" to the figure but none of those pictures came out so I'll be re-taking some shots next week.

Dave

That first shot looks excellent, probably my favorite of all the re-do's; great work! :clap :clap

Thanks alot I'm glad you like him. I had wondered if the sculpt had been changed from prototype to finished figure and was happy to see that there is a really good Viggo Mortensen likeness under the paint.

Nice work but for some reason I'm getting a Hollywood Hulk Hogan feel from the face. You know when he became a bad guy for NWO.

Aragorn is already on his way to sunny Colombia, so I guess he should be in my hands sometime next week.
I'm really looking forward to this figure, although I know it'll go straight to the repaint master.

Hmmm. Maybe you should be more specific. There are a few of us (and our numbers seem to be growing!).

Oh, sorry... I live in Colombia, so it's kinda difficult (and expensive) to ship stuff all the way back to the US just to get a repaint.
There's a fellow WWII collector down here who is very good with brush and airbrush who does repaints for me.

well, I had a some time today where I couldnt do any more work on my SS Obi-Wan reculpt/repaint, and I couldnt do anything else with my Anakin head cast (waiting 24 hours for silicone to dry) so I figured I'd grab Aragorn and give him the repaint I've been dying to do. (i'm doing Qui-Gon too, but he needs a reculpt too... so Aragorn was the obvious choice for today)

You'll have to excuse the crappy pics, it's late evening here and dark, so I had to hold the head up under the desk lamp (very yellow light it gives off) but you get the idea of how it's changed. I hope it looks alright, I'm quite pleased with it. Although that's not to say I might look at it in the daylight tomorrow and decide to do some more to it... us perfectionists are never happy ;)

I'm still deciding how to sit the hair (I took it off) I might twist it slightly to one side to give it some motion... we'll see tomorrow

As usual, the close up pics show much more bad painting than you actually see in person, lol..... now i just have to wait till tomorrow so i can have a go weathering the clothes and get him all dressed up again!!

Enjoy.......
