That DOES look really good. With a decent paintjob, it could be an excellent likeness.

Yeah, and don't forget that the tease picture is shot with dramatic lighting to match the movie still in the bg.

I told you people. This isn't Hasbro we're dealing with. :peace

I can't help feeling a bit kicked in the gut though - it's a much better likeness compared to the PF 1/4 scale Han head.

Chris

I don't know Chris, the likeness seems to be off in my opinion.

I actually like the Han 1/4 likeness signficantly better. The profile isn't great, but it's dead on from the front, IMO.

Ok, without the mask obscuring his face, he looks much more like Han. Hopefully the paint apps will accentuate this!!

I figured they just slipped on compressed air masks (not O2, as humans can't subsist on oxygen alone) after their readings showed that the temperature and pressure outside of the Falcon were indeed survivable, regardless of why: they might have been generated by the ship, or the slug, but they didn't need to know the exact soruce.

Anyway, nerdliness aside: the link in the blog links to a search query for "Han", and at the moment, this only shows the PF figure and its exlusive. Once the 12" Han is added to the site, the query will show it as well. So Sideshow won't need to update link in this blog entry. That seems to be all.

Oh, and it's not the PF sculpt. They do look very similar indeed, but you can see the difference, mainly in the hairstyle. I agree that PF looks very Harrison-like from the front, but the profile view is a bit wanting. Hopefully the smaller 12" will be an improvement in that regard.

I wonder who sculpted it -- Andy or Matt or someone else?

Matt Falls sculpted him I believe.

The PF ones looks better, but the 1/6th is just fine.

Now, change the hair and add some stubble and give is Indy!

Wow, wow and WOW!!!!! Nice job SS!

I agree the 1/4 sculpt looks a little better, but that 12" head comes pretty damn close...

Roll on Friday!

(...hope I get one...)

The paint adds a layer of thickness and tends to fill in some of the finer details. The little textures and wrinkles in the skin, for instance, get filled in with paint, so they're not as obvious in the final version.

I would love the option to purchase an unpainted head sculpt.

I didn't get the 1/4 scale Han but I'm going to be happy with the 1/6!

He looks a bit chuby in the face next to the 1/4 but it's still damn good for the size!

PsychoCenobite :horror

That's what I thought. Plus, the paint application isn't necessarily as detailed as the sculpting, as the figures have to be mass-produced. Still, one would think that the sculptor might compensate for the added layer of paint by exaggerating textures slightly, so that the detail is preserved in the final product.

As for the head sculpts, it would be great if SS offered a quarter-scale SW bust line, much in the vein of Star Trek. It would probably reach a whole new level of collectors, who can't afford, or are freaked out by, the 1:1 scale busts.

Also remember that the PF Han is based off the Solo from Star Wars while the 1/6 is based off Empire. There was a few years in between them and Ford's face did age a bit and look a bit heavier and older in the sequel. If you go back and compair the two movies he looks really young in Star Wars and more Indy era in Empire.

I think Mat's Han is exponentially better than my PF effort.... There are so many things I would (will?) do differently if I were to sculpt that character again. I could never surpass Mat's spot-on work but I'm sure I could get him closer than I did with the PF.

Mat's my HERO.

Best. Portrait. Sculptor. Ever.

Allow me to echo Andy's thoughts word for word, though in a slightly different order:

my HERO. -Andy: Best. Portrait. Sculptor. Ever.

Sucking up to the boss huh?

It is amazing to me that both unpainted sculpts are so like Harrison Ford and yet look very different. SS has very talented sculptors. :bow

I am so looking forward to ordering on Friday. I cannot wait to see the whole figure.
