I think PF's and Dio's are ok. Those tend to be more ok with the fanbase.

Not if SSC doesn't get the license to the Hobbit. You'll probably see some huge and incredibly expensive stuff from Weta though.

Took some beautiful pics of my LOTR figs which I'll post on monday. I can't say enough how much I love the LOTR 1:6 line. It was the best Sideshow had. :rock

Just to burst everyone's bubble - we've seen that LotR fans are NOT 1/6 fans. There is no crossover except those few diehards you see here. Gandalf is just about as good as a 1/6 figure can get - HT or SSC - and he's still not sold out. However his edition size is bigger than the hobbits, so I'd say he's probably not a failure in SSC's eyes.

The Hobbit will be a completely new entity and a completely new license. Weta is deeply entrenched in that project and want to become a collectibles company themselves. They will most likely have the license for statues and such for the Hobbit and SSC may be shut out. But even if SSC does get the license - 1/6 won't be on the table because they've seen that the market isn't there.

I appreciate the "glass is half full" attitude - but I really don't see it happening.

Sadly Dave usually knows his ^^^^ when it comes to Sideshow :monkey2

Its over folks, face it.

Quit living in denial, its sad and embarrassing. I know this better than most, just look at my signature to know my sad song.:monkey2

That is a sad signature. Who is he? :dunno

The only "it's dead" news has been on this site. As far as I'm concerned, "on hold" means just that. If they resume later, fine. But if they don't, it'll be a disappointment that the Fellowship 9 couldn't be completed, but I'll be happy that I have what I have. As for the line failing to the point of being on hold, who can really say why? Most collectors are fickle...they want the newest thing and LOTR, by and large, is an "old" (read: no longer "cool") topic. Combine that with the slow release of this line (may be necessitated by R&D as well as rights issues?) and it was going to be a hard sell so long after the hysteria of the movies died down, except for us die-hards (many of whom had been invested in Middle-earth for over 20 years).

Agree with Dave that Hobbit license will go to Weta....at least for the statues, dios, and maybe even the weapons/helms stuff. IF any non-Happy Meal level collectibles stuff is going to be parcelled out, it may be for 12" or PF...and there's a lot of companies out there that's going to bid for the potential revenue if the movies have ANY merit and continue the fanbase. The fact that SS has the current LOTR PFs and 12" license, as well as having been closely associated with Weta at the beginning, might sway NL/Time-Warner...but am gonna just wait and see.

:lol

I now sing the same lament of the Kurganites. *sniff* The streets will flow with the blood of the unbelievers. :monkey2

We all sail the Sea of Sorrows. We sing of lines gone before their time, of figures lost to the ages, its a sad song we sing, for these figures not upon the shelves of dejected collectors is a mournful tale indeed.

:monkey2

I heard the same "I'll just wait and see" from the Highlander peeps. Only once the Highlander section was removed did reality come crashing in for some diehards. Even still, SS only said that line was "on hold".

Only the Hobbit coming and going with no completed 1:6 Fellowship or the removal of the LOTR section will be the definitive "the line is dead" SS confirmation.

Well, they're not going to remove the LOTR section anytime soon. As I understand it, they removed Highlander at the request of the license holder, and so it doesn't even appear in their catalogs and so forth. But all of their other defunct lines still appear on the site, I think.

My Sam arrives today from SS. All the others have been picked up from board members and one stray from ebay, so I should have a complete "incomplete" fellowship by weeks end. I'm excited!

Also excited to see Gandalf selling out on the SS site too!

:D

Yeah, I stopped procrastinating and finally pulled the trigger on old Gandalf. It hurt to see him sitting there not sold out. As much as my wallet protested the expenditure, I did my part and ordered the exclusive. He should be here today. :gandalf I'll work on acquiring Sam and Frodo after the holidays.

This line is deader than the fell beast that Eowyn chopped it's head off.

Speaking of fell beasts, I didn't realize that Toy Biz had made a fell beast (with a 32" wingspan no less) for their 6" toy line. I just stumbled upon it while searching on ebay.

Yeah, it's a pretty nice toy. I prefer the SSW and SS pieces though.

This line is deader than Saruman falling off the top of Orthanc.

This line is deader than Gollum after falling into Mount Doom
