I am thinkin in goin for both but who knows like the SW they doesnt increase in value as the polystone so i think i will have time to buy the PF some time and collect the 12 figures and one PF, one 12, one PF, one 12, etc

I doubt the PFs will average over $300.

If you check out the original press release, those expecting the normal prices will find some bad news...

The new Premium Format limited edition figures will stand approximately 12 to 18-inches tall... and will retail for $225 to $450.

I'm guessing $350 to be the average. Even the little hobbits with no armor will only be $25 less than a typical full size 1/4 scale figure. I think we can expect higher prices on these compared to previous 1/4 releases. (And I also bet that it will all be worth it when we see the finished product.)

I hope the price points will be reasonable on both PF and 1/6... it may break me and I'll stop collecting all together if the prices are too high and unaffordable. I make 6 figures and it is still beyond my budget and I generally pick and choose. I've been picking up all the star wars PF and 1/6, to add the LOTR PF and 1/6, in addition to Marvel... something will give. So, which one to go first??? Marvel? Other 1/6's like bond, military and buffy? The pain will come when I have to choose between the LOTR and Star Wars pieces. LOTR will win probably. I don't know how SS can charge so much for the 1/4, nearly all of the PF's that has been shipping has decreased in price. The PF's are amazing, but it tends to drop in price.

Hehe. Looks like we're in the same boat. After money going 401K, Roth, mortgage, 2nd mortgage (gotta pay it until I can find renters...grrr), car payments, education loan (almost done), etc., I gotta be pretty selective as well (Sideshow 1/6, Marvel dios, Marvel PF, Bowen, comics). Face it man, we're on the low end of the income totem pole here. These other guys must be making 7 figures =)

I don't make anywhere near 6 figures, but you have to have your priorities in order. Forget about mortgages, health insurance, savings, etc. and there's plenty of money for collectibles.

Your mileage may vary of course...:angelsmil

Forgive me guys, but I'm pretty new to all this -

What is the difference between 12", PF and 1/4?

and what are the statues that weta workshop sells?

I will collect both. I'm in heaven now with 1/4 LotR and 12" LotR along with the Angel 12" license. I'll just forget about any future investments or retirement savings or feeding and clothing the kids. It's all going to Sideshow. ;)

PS. Almost everyone makes seven figures easy, as long as you include the decimal value. :p

I'm pretty much done with collecting anything else and I'll probably move most of whatever else I have and concentrate on this. Of course there'll be the odd piece here and there.

Your not gonna sell off your Weta LOTR pieces (polystone) are you Fritz?

I've become interested in the Marvel line recently but that may have to be dropped in favor of the LOTR PF/12" lines. I simply don't have the space or wish to invest the funds in so many diverse collections.

I'll be collecting both. Because of the price range probably all of the 12". Will be tempted by the others, and am afraid I will give into temptation regardless of money and space.

Now I know why I did not start collecting the 12" SW figures. Whew.

As for the financial side of things, I really find this announcement bittersweet, allow me to elaborate:

1) I do greatly admire SS as a collectible company and think that their products are top-notch, the PF and 12" figures pristine examples.

2) I want to support everything LOTR, and realize that these companies are first and foremost businesses, and they are getting their piece of the pie.

3) I still have a special fondness for all things Weta, and it is VERY hard for me to do any simple transition from their collectibles (which SS produced) to an exclusively SS product. Let's face it, we were so spoiled to have the actual crew making our beloved collectibles, it is hard to want anything else.

4) I also cringe that my hard earned $$$ is in some jeopardy with these new annoucements, and again I will state, I collect first and foremost because of my appreciation for the story; but having said that will not allow my family to suffer because of my addiction ( :google ). If the bottom drops on the SSW pieces, I will be forced to sell them and re-buy them cheaper.

So I suppose a few 12" figures will be part of my collection, but I can't see myself collecting the majority by any means. In addition, again, balancing collecting and financial wisdom, neither the PF or the 12" seem to really hold their value.

No 12" here, just 1/4 PF for me. Sold most of my weta in anticipation for the "better" :naughty PF pieces. I kept the enviroments, beasts/baddies and the H&Rs though, oh yeh and GTG......

PF and 12" are ok but why'd they cancel the poly?

I am a big LOTR/SIDESHOW freak but am a bit skeptical with sideshow lately.
i mean firstly why cancel an incredible line like the Polystone line only to announce Premium Format and 12"line. they havent even correctly finished that line to begin with. I mean where is Faramir/Eomer/Denethor/Lurtz?fellowship Pippin/ a proper fellbeast? the list is on and on.....they could have also done some incredible scenes too......imagine...and instead they choos eto create 2 whole new lines inferior to their polystone counterpart!!!
whos running the show over there? i think the biggest problem with them is they got way too greedy in setting the edition sizes from a perfect 2500 to 9500...is that even fair? i mean they shot themselves in the foot and now they abandon the line and move into something else....dont get me wrong im excited to see the new lines but.....now what do they expect...for us to collect another line that they will abandon unfinished with overblown edition sizes? Anyone agree?

You can direct every bit of this to Weta, they were in controll of the 1:6 polystone line. Sideshow was just the distributer for the merchendise...

Now we can have a proper LOTR line with Sideshow's sculpters at the helm in addition to SS's proven customer friendly business practices...

GO SIDESHOW!!!

I'd have to wholeheartedly disagree with you there. Different strokes for different strokes, but I'm far, far, far, far, far more interested in both the PF and 1/6 formats than the statues. They are for different types of collectors, but you can't argue that one is inferior to another.

And I think SSC shares some of the blame for setting the edition sizes. 9500 was a bit high. But collectors that ordered 2 with the intent of immediately selling one at a profit was what drove the edition sizes so high to start with.

You are really barking at the wrong tree, Weta closed that line. PF inferior to the 1/6 statue???? Do you even own any of the PFs that Sideshow has produced?

A couple of very reliable sources have said that sideshow dropped Weta and not the other way around. Do we know for certain it was weta that dropped sideshow?

I'd never heard from anyone that it was SSC who didn't want to renew, always the other way around. Judging what WETA is doing with Kong and Narnia, it seems that they don't want a partner at all.
